Too many twists and turns to be truly enjoyable. This is the fourth book in the series that I have read. All of the books have interesting characters and a generally believable plot. I consider the stories as a combination of hot sex with a little mystery.
This book left such a bad taste in my mouth that it almost ruined the series for me. The
only reason this story was able to earn 3 stars was because it was about half way into the story before it got weird. I expected a mystery but this story took the mystery in such a that it caused me to lose all believability. For about half of the book the mystery lead in one specific direction then suddenly it split with the story reality and went into a bizarre direction.
Finishing the story for me then became more about how bizarre the ending might become than the characters resolving their love. Lastly, while I applaud the author for attempting the narration herself the narration was more of a distraction than anything else. The majority of the male characters sounded the same and the female characters were only distinguishable by their style of speaking not their voices. I had to rewind several times to to distinguish who was talking to pick up a conversation's meaning.
A good story but too predictable if you have read the others in this series.
This is the third story in this series. I really enjoyed funding out what happened with Ashley as the last story in this series left her future in question. I even enjoyed the little bit of back story at the start of this story that builds up the character of Mel.
My problem with the story is that it generally follows the same plot from the two previous stories in this series with what appears to be only minor changes in jobs and physical characteristics of the characters. In addition, the characters from the previous stories in the series are almost absent from this book altogether.
This was the second book in the series that I read. I had the book on my to be read list for so long that I had forgotten why I had decided to read the book in the first place. Most of the time when I read books in a series it is because I choose to revisit the "old fiends" of the previous book and I am looking to check in to see what they have been up to since we have last been in contact.
Since it had been so long since I had read the previous book in the series I honestly couldn't remember why I had decided to go out and purchase the second book. It quickly became apparent that the star of this book and the reason for my purchase was one Thistle "Tricks" Periwinkle. But sadly while Tricks was well written and seemed to jump off of the page our hero of the story Tiago Black Eagle appear a little cardboard and not quite real. The story was an entertaining read but it was just okay because Tiago appeared so artificial.
This book had an interesting if entirely different plot from the general girl meets boy simple romance. The sex scenes may have had a completely unrealistic feel to them but they worked with the general story. The main characters were well written but the supporting characters that the plot revolved around were less well developed. Secondary characters from related books were presented in such a way as to indicate that there was a side story/book but they also were not well developed. Overall the book was just what I was expecting a quick easy listen without much drama.
The reason for the low rating is that 3/4th of the way through the book I experienced technical difficulties with the book on my Kindle device. In spite of Audible being a Amazon company the only solution for the problem I am having with this one book is to de-register my device. Since I have over 9 thousand books on my device in on format or another and am currently reading at least 6 different books that is not an option. What is an option is requesting a refund for this book and purchasing it from another company.
This book was so well written that it was very disturbing. I had to take several breaks from the story just to cleanse my soul of the main character`s mental depravity. Reading the story with the maturity of an adult and professional educator makes it even more difficult as I can not view the story or characters as just fictionalized images. Nor can I view Lolita as the seductive teen she is portrayed in the media images associated with the story. For the Lolita that Humbert Humbert became sexually obsessed with is but a pre-adolescent girl child of 12.
I have to admit that I went into the story with some expectation as I had seen and loved the movie. Additionally, who would not love Colin Firth breathing life into the narration.
That said this book was so much more than I could have imagined. The depth of the emotions expressed in this book gave me a whole new understanding of the concepts of Hate and its equal in passion love. Does love/hate end with the end of the affair? Or does hate/love continue time without end seems to be the question posed by this book. Don't get me wrong this is not your 21 century stalker kind of obsessive love but a real love characterized by those insecurities of all those who are unable to openly show their love.
I don't know about the rest of readers but I really enjoy a "Cinderella" story. While this could not be described as a tradition "Cinderella" story it does have some of the same elements. Coupled with the cute story of the unexpected/unnoticed "Rella" though is a lot of hot sexy action of an adult variety. This is not your child's fairy tale but a very adult story with some hot and spicy sex scenes.
The art of writing is to develop a story with characters that the reader can 1. connect with on a person level and 2. care about. Ms. Harper has more than surpassed that goal. Not only is the story interesting and compelling and the characters well developed but there was so much life in the story that it was impossible not to see the humor in the various situations and laugh out loud. I have made plans to read the whole series and any other books by Ms. Harper I can get my hands on. Life is much to serious now days not to have a good laugh.
I would recommend this book to a friend as this story is not just about quick, wicket sex although the sex is a big part of the story. This book is also about personal growth.
The one thing I liked best about the story was that the characters both the male and the female appeared to grow outside if their comfort zone during the story.
Felicity Munroe brought to the story a texture of the time, place and chacaters that could not be obtained just through the reading of the book.
Yes, I had an extreme reaction. I am sure people thought something was wrong with me as I appeared to be laughing for no reason.
I purchased this as a quick read during my commute and was so entertained and involved that I continued to listen once home. It is seldom that audio book so entertains me that I continue reading once home as I usually have several print books that I am reading at home at any given day.
I probably would not try another book from Polly Frost or the narrators.
Right now with the bad taste still in my mouth from this book I can't say that I will be willing to try another Polly Frost book. That said, I can't really speak about the quality of the writing, plot development or character development as the narration was so poor that it took away from the story. The use of the three voices to tell the stories was not a good choice since it made listening very confusing. Additionally, the narrators seemed to have difficulties switching character "voices" in the stories making it very hard to determine who was talking thus making the stories hard to follow.
I really don't know who could have brought these stories to life.
I personally don't feel deep inside was worth my listening time. The only reason I continued/ to read to the end was that I became curious to see how dark the stories would become.
Now regarding the subject matter. The subject of the book are extremely dark sexual fantasies. While these fantasies are much too dark for my personal taste in reading I can not say that that was a contributing factor in my dislike of the stories. I have in the past listened to other books of which were outside of my personal taste (extreme violence/sex) and have found myself swept away by the stories and/or narration.
