Seven weeks ago, a young American woman, Amanda Pym, faced down hijackers on board a flight to the Middle East and saved the lives of more than two hundred passengers. In a blaze of celebrity, she stepped off the plane in Damascus and was whisked away in a waiting car. Since then, NOTHING. The CIA believes she was kidnapped and murdered. Whose plans has the apparently ordinary young woman interfered with? The machinations of the mukhabarat, Syria's dreaded police?

Sharon Williams is good, but she doesn't portray the age of Mrs. Pollifax effectively. It was a bit jarring to go from the elderly woman Barbara Rosenblatt played to such a younger characterization. The story itself is excellent. It could only have been better if Mrs. Pollifax had made a decision in the story that it was going to be her last mission instead of leaving it open.

In John Scalzi's re-imagining of H. Beam Piper's 1962 sci-fi classic Little Fuzzy, written with the full cooperation of the Piper Estate, Jack Holloway works alone for reasons he doesnt care to talk about. Hundreds of miles from ZaraCorps headquarters on planet, 178 light-years from the corporations headquarters on Earth, Jack is content as an independent contractor, prospecting and surveying at his own pace. As for his past, thats not up for discussion.

Samuel Montgomery-Blinn says: "Short, sweet, and satisfying storytelling."

I've listened to both Fuzzy Nation and Little Fuzzy (the original story) and they are both great books with very different paths to the end. I found Fuzzy Nation to be a little more realistic in terms of today's society, but I am sure in another fifty years there might be room for an even more updated book and we'll have the Fuzzy Solution or something like that. Anyhow, listen to both. They are equally good.

My only disappointment is the rest of the Fuzzy series are not available in audible formats.

From the author of the classic mysteries starring the irrepressible CIA spy, Mrs. Pollifax, comes a delightfully different mystery with a most unholy twist. Filled with all the hilarious surprises and good old-fashioned suspense that her fans have come to love, A Nun in the Closet is the story of two high-spirited nuns who accidentally stumble into a dangerous plot involving ghosts, gangsters, and Protestants.

This is a stand-alone book by the author of Mrs. Pollifax and a fairly intricate mystery. Lots of fun. Set in the 1960s.

Ambassador Spock travels back in time to subtly warn Earth's inhabitants of impending doom while calling into question humanity's priorities. However, before the truth is told, the all-powerful being, Q, appears and reminds Spock that he is prohibited from interfering in Earth's history. Besides, Q doesn't see mankind as something worth saving.

This was a real treat for Star Trek fans. It was performed live at a convention and featured not only Spock, but the actor who portrayed Q. He's just as obnoxious in this story as in Star Trek and trading barbs with our favorite Vulcan. This is just half the story although fairly complete in itself. Get the sequel, too.

It had to happen. Mrs. Pollifax gets in deeper in this book and the story is darker. It is still an excellent story, but a bit more realistic than the rest. An agent's life is a perilous one.

Like its predecessor, this electrifying drama boasts an outstanding cast (including Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Anthony Daniels as See Threepio, Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian, and John Lithgow as Yoda); a greatly expanded script, with many scenes not found in the movie; and audio engineering of unparalleled excellence. The Empire Strikes Back takes you once more into a galaxy of pure sound and limitless imagination for an adventure you'll never forget.

The performance is great and the story more detailed than the movie. Loved these when I got hold of them on cassette back in the early 80s. Am glad to have the complete production now.

Mrs. Pollifax, Innocent Tourist whisks the gray-haired agent into a perilous web of intrigue that spreads across the drifting sands of the volatile Middle East. An old CIA friend, Farrell, must collect an inflammatory manuscript smuggled out of Iraq into Jordan. Farrell has a simple request for Emily—provide cover during his trip to Jordan by posing as his fun-loving elderly cousin. But before the plane even lands, danger begins stalking the sprightly Mrs. Pollifax.

As usual, this is an excellent Mrs. Pollifax book and Barbara Rosenblat does an excellent job of bringing her to life. Farrell is back and the usual quick mission becomes something more. They succeed, of course, beyond their wildest dreams and foil another plot in the process.

Mrs. Virgil (Emily) Pollifax of New Brunswick, New Jersey, was a widow with grown children. She was tired of attending her Garden Club meetings. She wanted to do something good for her country. This first in the series sends Emily on her first case after she successfully persuades a skeptical CIA recruitment officer that she is the best person for the job.

    Story

I first heard about Mrs. Pollifax 20 years ago. Now that I am 55, I found it hugely entertaining that a 58 year old woman convinced the CIA to let her be a spy. This series is well worth the time. You'll be disappointed, though, to find out two of the books are not available at Audible. Request those at your local library. They are number 5 and 6, I think.

Lummox is not exactly the family dog. Big as a triceratops but more exotic in appetite (he once ate a Buick), "Lummy" has a decided penchant for trouble. Still, he's been part of the Stuart clan for generations, and his current owner, John Thomas Stuart XI, cares for him deeply. Just how deeply will be tested when Lummox's restless appetite starts a chain of events that turn his relationship with John Thomas upside down, and puts first John Thomas, and then the Earth itself, in peril.

Kathryn says: "Teen main characters - fun twist to the story"
"Classic science fiction with a twist"
    Overall

I first read this 30 years ago and I loved the twist (the only thing I remembered). Having found it again, I enjoyed it just as much in audio. David Baker and the Full Cast Family do an excellent job of bringing Heinlein's books to life.

Ross Jenkins, Art Mueller, and Morris Abrams are not your average high-school students. While other kids are cruising around in their cars or playing ball, this trio, known as the Galileo Club, is experimenting with rocket fuels. Art's uncle, the nuclear physicist Dr. Donald Cargraves, offers them the opportunity of a lifetime: to construct and crew a rocket that will take them to the moon. But there are those who don't share their dream and who will stop at nothing to keep their rocket grounded.

Ellen Anthony says: "A science fiction classic"
    "A science fiction classic"
    Overall

Published in 1947, this classic science fiction has adventure, political intrigue and some hard science in it. Very little of it has been disproved even though it was 20 years ahead of its time. The future would be so different now if they'd opened up space then to commercial interests.
