I have read every book he has written starting with Red Square but this is really not very good. Decent plot idea but the execution was weak and it fell apart at the end.
This is a great story but it only comes alive when listened to - the sequential chapters of the old man and his younger self are wonderfully performed by the readers -- it is worth listening to even if you have already read it!
I have been recommended this book many times over the years but could never get into it and gave up after reading the first chapter about ten times. Then I put the Audible version read by Joe Barrett on my iPod and could not put it down. It is an excellent book but it is an aural experience and the perfomance by Mr. Barrett is beyond first class!
This is the most thoughtful analysis of the terrible mess we are in and gives some insight into how we might get out of it. Bacevich is a genius.
I like food and restaurant writing but this is just silly and amaturish - I cannot believe he had a successful blog. Read anything by Michael Ruhlman instead!
