Rob is a pop music junkie who runs his own semi-failing record store in London. His girlfriend, Laura, has just left him for the guy upstairs, and Rob is both miserable and relieved. After all, could he have spent his life with someone who has a bad record collection?

High Fidelity had been on my top five list of favorite movies since it was released, and I knew it was originally a Nick Hornby book, but hadn't read it until this month. The movie is almost a verbatim recreation of the book, so I loved it. It has fantastic characters, classic Hornby, as well as really relateable situations. There's an authenticity and positivity that is rare. It's a quick read that I highly reccomend.

  • David Sedaris Live at Carnegie Hall

If you are driving, pull over. If you are at work, close your door, unless you don't mind your colleagues seeing you doubled over, in tears, on your office floor. With this recording, taped before a delirious sold out audience at Carnegie Hall, you are there as David Sedaris performs new stories from his upcoming book. A parrot who mimics an ice maker, lovers quarreling over a rubber hand, and a Santa Claus who moonlights from his job as bishop of Turkey, the cast of characters is like no other.

I'm a fan of Davis Sedaris, but I didn't truly fall in love with his work until I heard his live performance of it. His stories come alive with his inflection and nuance. I highly recommend both this reading of his stories AND seeing him live.
