  • The Great Deformation: The Corruption of Capitalism in America

David Stockman was the architect of the Reagan Revolution that was meant to restore sound money principles to the U.S. government. It failed, derailed by politics, special interests, welfare, and warfare. Stockman describes how the working of free markets and democracy has long been under threat in America and provides a surprising, nonpartisan catalog of the corrupters and defenders. His analysis shows how both liberal and neoconservative interference in markets has proved damaging and often dangerous.

Michael says: "Loads of Information but problematic writing"
"Should be a required read by all students!"

    Story

First, I have to say it's a bit long and David repeats himself a couple of times. But the description of political processes and why things happened in the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and now is instrumental in understanding what the issues are, why we face them, and how to change so this country can survive.

You can't possibly understand the complexity of the political issues and financial troubles we have, until you read or listen to this book.

    Great job David!

Mark R. Levin has made the case, in numerous New York Times best-selling books - Men in Black, Liberty and Tyranny, and Ameritopia - that the principles undergirding our society and governmental system are unravelling. In The Liberty Amendments, he turns to the founding fathers and the constitution itself for guidance in restoring the American republic.

At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking, reading to partying; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over brainstorming in teams. Although they are often labeled "quiet," it is to introverts that we owe many of the great contributions to society--from van Gogh’s sunflowers to the invention of the personal computer.

Listen to this book and send your nonverbal intelligence soaring. Joe Navarro, a former FBI counterintelligence officer and a recognized expert on nonverbal behavior, explains how to "speed-read" people: decode sentiments and behaviors, avoid hidden pitfalls, and look for deceptive behaviors. You'll also learn how your body language can influence what your boss, family, friends, and strangers think of you.

    Story

As a business owner, I have to deal with a lot of people. This book is a great start at understanding people's true intentions by reading their body language. I am sure their is more to learn, but I found this fascinating, informative, and insightful. The author is honest in saying that it is almost impossible to truly know if a person is being honest, but body language can help if you know what to look for.

Make sure you have the pdf downloaded and available to look at. This is one book that might be better read than listened to because of the pictures referenced.

Why are some people and organizations more innovative, more influential, and more profitable than others? Why do some command greater loyalty from customers and employees alike? Even among the successful, why are so few able to repeat their successes over and over? People like Martin Luther King Jr., Steve Jobs, and the Wright Brothers might have little in common, but they all started with why.

This is one book I will listen to again and again.

In 1998, three Harvard Business School graduates - two men and one woman - turned down six-figure salaries at big corporations, bet on themselves, and launched their own new companies. By their 10-year reunion, their audacity had paid huge dividends. They'd made many millions of dollars, created hundreds of jobs and left their mark on the world. The Intelligent Entrepreneur tells the compelling and instructive story of how these three young founders did it.

I am an entrepreneur. I have started over 10 separate businesses. You would think I would not need to read this book. But I am always looking for a better way. And this book is as good as any in helping a person organize the process of starting and running a business. The section on who to hiring the right people is very important.

The book is written around the story of 3 main people and their efforts to start and run a business. The book is very informative and interesting because of the method in which it's written.

Since Darwin's day, we've been told that sexual monogamy comes naturally to our species. Mainstream science - as well as religious and cultural institutions - has maintained that men and women evolved in families in which a man's possessions and protection were exchanged for a woman's fertility and fidelity. But this narrative is collapsing....

I would recommend this book to everyone wanting to understand males, females, sex and marriage. This book helps explain where human sexuality comes from and why we have the issues we do today. It doesn't recommend a solution, just explains how we have arrived at this point. The understanding of how and why we "are" is key to helping us solve our marital issues.

America faces a full-scale socioeconomic collapse in the near future. The stock market plummets, hyperinflation cripples commerce and the mounting crisis passes the tipping point. Practically overnight, the fragile chains of supply and high-technology infrastructure fall, and wholesale rioting and looting grip every major city.

Could be the scenario we face here in the future, and if not, still a great story. Maybe too much detail on some of the guns, radios, etc., but it's also very good information if you want to prepare.

Sure makes you think about what you would need in order to survive during an economic collapse.
