For a game, the gods have given the world 12 Swords of Power so that they might be amused as the nations battle for their possession. But Vulcan the Smith has had his own little joke: the Swords can kill the gods themselves. What started out as Divine Jest has become all too serious as the gods fight to recover the Swords, and mortals discover that the mantle of power is more delicious and more terrible than anything they could have imagined.

If the past is prologue, then George R. R. Martin's masterwork - the most inventive and entertaining fantasy saga of our time - warrants one hell of an introduction. At long last, it has arrived with The World of Ice & Fire. This volume is a comprehensive history of the Seven Kingdoms, providing vividly constructed accounts of the epic battles, bitter rivalries, and daring rebellions that lead to the events of A Song of Ice and Fire and HBO's Game of Thrones.

If you're a true Game Of Thrones fan this is a good read but you should already know most of this book. I've read all five books twice and watched the series three or four times. With all that being said i still learned more about the 7 kingdoms. This book is a great feel in as we all wait for the 6th book to come out and we all know that HBO or the millions of fans out there won't make George R.R. Martin write faster. The one thing Martin does do in this book is he sets up the prequel for the New HBO series!!!! This book really tells you all about the Targaryen blood line and all the family trees and the wars to win the throne. If Martin feels to finish book 6 and 7 before the HBO last seasons starts, this is always a new route they can go. One things for sure-nobody can get enough Game Of Thrones!!!!

In keeping with the parable style, Patrick Lencioni begins by telling the fable of a woman who, as CEO of a struggling Silicon Valley firm, took control of a dysfunctional executive committee and helped its members succeed as a team. Story time over, Lencioni offers explicit instructions for overcoming the human behavioral tendencies that he says corrupt teams. Succinct yet sympathetic, this guide will be a boon for those struggling with the inherent difficulties of leading a group.

In July 1995, San Jose Mercury-News reporter Gary Webb found the Big One - the blockbuster story every journalist secretly dreams about - without even looking for it. A simple phone call concerning an unexceptional pending drug trial turned into a massive conspiracy involving the Nicaraguan Contra rebels, L.A. and Bay Area crack cocaine dealers, and the Central Intelligence Agency.

This is a true story about how one reporter uncovers the CIA involvement in a lot of bad things!!! One phone call leads Gary Webb into the Dark Alliance of the CIA the Contras and the LA crack explosion. To think the CIA is to blame for bringing most of the crack in the late 70's and early 80's to the US for the resale to buy guns for the Iran Contra Affair. Guns and crack to fund a war thousands of miles away. It's all true and it's all in the transcripts and nobody wanted to know!!! Thanks to Gary Webb we probably know half the truth!! Good book and i can't wait to watch the movie To Kill the Messenger...

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

A great love story that falls apart after years of marriage and not having kids.Amy and Nick are meant to be together. She moved from the fast city lights to slow moving suburban living at the home Nick grew up at and it still doesnt help.Only the love of Amy and the anniversary scavenger hunt will keep this couple and town together!!! Fatal Attraction at its best and its never what you or the cops think...

What if—whoosh, right now, with no explanation—a number of us simply vanished? Would some of us collapse? Would others of us go on, one foot in front of the other, as we did before the world turned upside down? That’s what the bewildered citizens of Mapleton, who lost many of their neighbors, friends and lovers in the event known as the Sudden Departure, have to figure out. Because nothing has been the same since it happened—not marriages, not friendships, not even the relationships between parents and children.

I first watched this series on HBO then i read the book. This is one time the book is completely different but in a good way. Kevin isn't the mayor in the series and there is no talk of his dad or his mysterious dog killing friend. Holy Wayne in the series is a prophet or angel type leader. Jon who is Kevins son is following Wayne and taking care of his girlfriend. She is carrying the baby of Holy Wayne which Nore Durst finds in the end. Who is this baby? His wife and daughter has a lot of problems. One lives with the cult group The Guilty Remnant and the other could join!! Overall a good story about where a fourth of the world just disappeared. Is it the rapture or aliens ? I guess book two will explain a lot more because there is a whole lot more to tell about this crazy town called Mapleton. Maybe book two can tell us more? The HBO series is better than the book and you don't hear me ever say that much because the book usually is always better!!!

Throughout these books, Follett has followed the fortunes of five intertwined families - American, German, Russian, English, and Welsh - as they make their way through the twentieth century. Now they come to one of the most tumultuous eras of all: the enormous social, political, and economic turmoil of the 1960s through the 1980s, from civil rights, assassinations, mass political movements and Vietnam to the Berlin Wall, the Cuban Missile Crisis, presidential impeachment, revolution - and rock and roll.

I wished it wouldn't have ended-I could read Follett all day. Follett does a great job putting fictional characters in true events. Book three is awesome! Follett puts all the old characters from the last book with their new families in book three. Out of all three books most of us can relate to the timeline in this book. Living in Alabama and listing to all the bad things that happened in this part of the country really puts chills all over my body. All five families lived through the hard times of a tough century where the growing and breaking up of these countries was tough on all five. These five families crossed each others paths on the way to help build these new countries. Love and war is a big part in all three books just as it is in our lives today. When you read a Ken Follett book he makes you feel like you are a part of the true events he writes about. If you haven't read this series, start today you will love it! MUST READ!!

FitzChivalry - royal bastard and former king’s assassin - has left his life of intrigue behind. As far as the rest of the world knows, FitzChivalry Farseer is dead and buried. Masquerading as Tom Badgerlock, Fitz is now married to his childhood sweetheart, Molly, and leading the quiet life of a country squire. Though Fitz is haunted by the disappearance of the Fool, who did so much to shape Fitz into the man he has become, such private hurts are put aside in the business of daily life, at least until the appearance of menacing, pale-skinned strangers casts a sinister shadow over Fitz’s past...and his future.

The first three book were awesome and that's hard to beat. But Robin Hobb has done it again with a great story line to bring Fitz aka "Tom Badgerlock" back to the Six Duchies.
After years of living his life with Molly and their kids, Fitz has forgotten his assassin ways until his life is turned upside down. Fitz trying to raise a new little girl on his own after Molly has passed and the Fool coming back into his life after all these years is a recipe for disaster. Fitz has two new young would be assassins in his life to teach or not to teach-(that is the question). Will his young daughter find out about Fitz Chivalry's assassin life and will she still love him? Two books to go.....
