OMG !!!! The narrator (author) is THE WORST I have ever heard. I am only about 1 hour into listening to this book. I find the topic interesting but Dr Hawkins reads the book like he has never read it before. It sounds like he is often ignoring the punctuation. Pausing between words at strange times and running sentences together at others.
HE TALKS LIKE HE HAS A MOUTH FULL OF MASKED PEAS (or saliva).
He has an especially difficult time saying the word "Et cetera" which he pronounces as "eshhesha".
Why? Why? Why? Why didn't someone tell this man that he sounds so terrible?
All that being said. I will probably buy the book to read. And, I hope I can finish listening to this audible book. But, I find my self getting very frustrated starting and stopping, rewinding to try and understand what he said/meant.
To bad there is not a way to "return unused portions" for a full or partial refund. I would definitely return this one.
The WORST narrator i have ever heard.
I agree with some of the other reviews. The amount of character development in the beginning of the book was very hard to listen to. The author describes each look, thought, action, etc of all the characters. More like a screen play than a novel. I often thought the writing sounded like it was written by a teenager.
But, after the first part (the book is broken in to 3 separate downloads) I enjoined it more and more. The ending sets the stage for another book. And, i am going to get it as well.
This guy is amazing. I have both of his speeches that are available here, and recommend them both VERY VERY VERY highly. His views on being awake are actually liberating (no joke). He teaches that being AWAKE is really not hard, and that in his opinion there are a lot more AWAKE people than you realize ... MAYBE EVEN YOU.
You can hear his authentic-ness in his voice. Very easy too listen too. He leads you through a couple guided meditations. This is basically the teaching he gave at a retreat. I would love to meet this guy!!!
