  • The Mermaids Singing

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 11 mins)
    • By Val McDermid
    • Narrated By Graham Roberts

The bodies of four men have been discovered in the town of Bradfield. Enlisted to investigate is criminal psychologist Tony Hill. Even for a seasoned professional, the series of mutilation sex murders is unlike anything he's encountered before. But profiling the psychopath is not beyond him. Hill's own past has made him the perfect man to comprehend the killer's motives. It's also made him the perfect victim. A game has begun for the hunter and the hunted.

Barbara says: "Not for the squeamish"
    "This is not for me."
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Torturing humans is bad, but when it came to dogs...even barking dogs...I couldn't listen any further.

Would you ever listen to anything by Val McDermid again?

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Graham Roberts?

  • Starting Now: A Blossom Street Novel, Book 9

    • By Debbie Macomber
    • Narrated By Abby Craden
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

For years Libby Morgan dreamed only of making partner in her competitive, high-pressure law firm. She sacrificed everything for her career - her friends, her marriage, her chance at creating a family. When her boss calls Libby into his office, she assumes it will finally be good news, but nothing can prepare her for the shocking reality: She’s been let go and must rebuild her entire life…starting now. With no job prospects in sight, Libby reaches out to old friends and spends her afternoons at A Good Yarn, the local knitting store.

    Blanche says: "Love!Love!!Love!!!"
    "Narrator was destroyed the story!"
Where does Starting Now rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was very disappointing as Debbie Macomber's books are always enjoyable. I believe the narrator destroyed the story.

What did you like best about this story?

    The story line was good.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Yes! The only character she did well was the raunchy grandmother. There was little expression in her tone. At first I thought my iPod was dying on me...but it was the narrator.

Be Careful What You Wish For opens with Harry Clifton and his wife Emma rushing to the hospital to learn the fate of their son, Sebastian, who has been involved in a fatal car accident. But Don Pedro Martinez intends to install his puppet, the egregious Major Alex Fisher, in order to destroy the Barrington family firm just as the company plans to build its new luxury liner, the MV Buckingham.

DIANE says: "A blockbuster! Waiting for the next book!!!"
    "The best of Jeffrey Archer"
What made the experience of listening to Be Careful What You Wish For the most enjoyable?

I didn't want to stop listening. I really couldn't turn off my IPod. The story had twists and turns that kept me guessing.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes! And, of course the cliff-hanger will keep me there until the next book is released.

What about Alex Jennings’s performance did you like?

Amazing as always; he has such talent.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    Revenge has no limits.

    Any additional comments?

How long do I have to wait for the next book?

  • Sycamore Row

    • UNABRIDGED (20 hrs and 50 mins)
    • By John Grisham
    • Narrated By Michael Beck
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?

Brock says: "Grisham at his best (again)"
"Sycamore Row had me hanging on every word."
If you could sum up Sycamore Row in three words, what would they be?

    Amazing...simply amazing

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I could hardly quit listening to the book. I was totally spellbound and wanted to know what was happening next.

    Any additional comments?

I recommend this book to everyone. I loved Michael Beck's narration of the book.
