The epitome of the chivalric novel, Ivanhoe sweeps listeners into Medieval England and the lives of a memorable cast of characters. Ivanhoe, a trusted ally of Richard the Lion Hearted, returns from the Crusades to reclaim his inheritance. Rebecca, a beautiful Jewish woman, is defended by Ivanhoe against a charge of witchcraft - but it is Lady Rowena who is Ivanhoe's true love. The success of this novel lies with Scott's skillful blend of historic reality, chivalric romance, and high adventure.

If you could sum up Ivanhoe in three words, what would they be?

    Impossible to do

Who was your favorite character and why?

Still reading and think it might be ages before I get though it all so reviewed now on what I heard so far.

What about Simon Prebble’s performance did you like?

He makes it easier to listen to than to read.

    Any additional comments?

I know it is a classic, but oh my gosh. I need my cliff notes!

New York Times best-selling author Diana Gabaldon enchanted scores of fans with Outlander, her electrifying historical saga set in 18th-century Scotland. Now this sequel sweeps listeners back into the past as Claire relates more of her perilous sojourn there with her Scottish warrior husband, James Fraser. Twenty years after her strange journey back in time, Claire has returned to Scotland with her daughter, determined to share with her the secret she has harbored since her time travel.

Though I think I preferred book one, this second book in the series still has lots of things happening. I am so glad I heard about them after the 7 were already written. It would have been so hard to have to wait for the next one!

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

In a ruined and toxic landscape, a community exists in a giant silo underground, hundreds of stories deep. There, men and women live in a society full of regulations they believe are meant to protect them. Sheriff Holston, who has unwaveringly upheld the silo’s rules for years, unexpectedly breaks the greatest taboo of all: He asks to go outside.

I really enjoyed this book though parts were so odd they made me feel a bit uneasy like a wool sweater. This was a very different type of read for me but it takes your mind to places you might not have been to yet. Worth the effort.

Bryn is finally settling into her position as alpha of the Cedar Ridge Pack - or at least, her own version of what it means to be alpha when you’re a human leading a band of werewolves. Then she finds a teenage boy bleeding on her front porch. Before collapsing, he tells her his name is Lucas, he’s a Were, and Bryn’s protection is his only hope. But Lucas isn’t part of Bryn’s pack, and she has no right to claim another alpha’s Were. With threats - old and new - looming, and danger closing in from all sides, Bryn will have to accept what her guardian Callum knew all along. To be alpha, she will have to give in to her own animal instincts and become less human.

I enjoyed this book even more that the first one. Of course you have to read the first one to get all the background but the continuation of the characters and how they further develop is wonderful. Still deciding if I like the way it ended.

Many consider this rich social commentary to be Jane Austen's finest novel. It is certainly among her more famous ones. Austen sets her entertaining study of manners and misconceptions against the backdrop of a class-conscious society in 18th-century England.

My friends and I were all shocked that I would ever read this book simply since I was never a reader until I found Audible.com. It was hard time geting through the first part of the book because of the attitudes of the times. I am so glad I was not born back then since I would have been a real outcast-hee hee. Once I accepted "where I was" the book became interesting for me because of the characters and how others reacted to their actions. So different than how we deal with relationships today and by the end, I even understood the title.

Even though this book is meant for younger readers, I really enjoyed where the author took me with this book. Creepy to think of a world like this but at the same time it makes you appreciate the choices we do have and that we can make them on our own. Was a little disappointed in the quick ( to me) ending, but still worth the read for me.

Why we think it’s a great listen: There’s no gentle way to put this – Frank McCourt’s performance of Angela’s Ashes is just better than the Pulitzer Prize-winning book. Frank McCourt shares his sometimes heartwarming, sometimes heartbreaking story of growing up poor, Irish, and Catholic in the Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela's Ashes.

I am not the best at doing these reviews on a professional level, but instead just give my personal comments. A friend encouraged me to keep reading the book after I was ready to give it up once I was about a fourth the way through. I am so glad he did and I felt I really learned something about the times in England where the book took place- coal miners strike, being poor and the attitude of the Irish during this very difficult time. Can't say it was very uplifing most of the time, but at the same time I enjoyed it enough that I plan on reading the next two he wrote about his life.

Now at last Keith Richards pauses to tell his story in the most anticipated autobiography in decades. And what a story! Listening obsessively to Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters records in a coldwater flat with Mick Jagger and Brian Jones, building a sound and a band out of music they loved. Finding fame and success as a bad-boy band, only to find themselves challenged by authorities everywhere....

This is not the type of book I ususally read, but is why I choose to try it. The voices did fit the book though I thought the readers could have put a little more expression into what they read. I found myself putting the speed at 1 1/2 or 2 just because it was so slow. The slowness did fit the attitude of the book, but I just wanted to get through it faster.
Glad I read it I guess since it did show just what a tough life superstars go through to get to the fame we take for granted. Wonder how his path would have worked with the same talent but less sex and drugs? That was the age, I know, but it was quite overwhelming to me how many escapes they had from serious jail time and death!

Not my kind of book, but feel it did a very good job of showing me part of a real world I never experienced or chose to be in then or now. Also, this was the first autobiography I have listened to while on Audible.

I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily…Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. The review title sounds a bit vanilla since this type of book needs to be judged for what it is and not that it is some type of classic read of course. I did enjoy it after reading 50 shades since it was a bit tamer. I think it might have been better if I had read this trilogy first since I think people might do the comparison and "Bared" would come up short in the "wide eyed" department.
I liked it enough to listen to book 2 of the trilogy but am waiting for later to see if I want to get book 3.

One of the great classics of world literature and the inspiration for the most beloved stage musical of all time, Les Misérables is legendary author Victor Hugo’s masterpiece. This extraordinary English version by renowned translator Julie Rose captures all the majesty and brilliance of Hugo’s work. Here is the timeless story of the quintessential hunted man—Jean Valjean—and the injustices, violence, and social inequalities that torment him.

I first read this book in high school English for extra credit. I was not a "reader" at all like my parents were and when I picked it up to read it a second time-they were shocked. I have continued to like the story line and have seen the musical 7 times. I mention this so you realize that I am partial and would love hearing this book read to me since you already have my "attention". Grin. That being said, I love the voice of the reader and by listening to the book, I have remembered more parts that were not in the musical and appreciated what a huge and successful undertaking it was to make this book into that awesome musical.

I just saw the movie last night and will keep this book downloaded so I can go back to it when I choose.

A classic all should listen to for so many ways I am not equipped to express in fairness.
