The storyline was good, not great (a bit predictable). The narrator completely grated on my nerves. Her male voices all sounded like a grumpy old man who has smoked for 40 years, and her elderly lady voice sounded like the wicked witch of the west. Too bad really, because I would have enjoyed the book much more with a different narrator.
After months of coaxing by many people, I finally gave in and downloaded this book. I wanted to like it, tried to like it, but just couldn't get there. It was absolute drudgery and I struggled to make it to the end. But I did, and have no interest in continuing with the series. Once it was finally over, all I could think was "I wasted two credits on this"? The only reason I rated it three stars is because I can see the draw to teenagers, but adults? No way....I am truly perplexed!
I am truly amazed so many people rated this book so highly......I found my mind wandering constantly. WAY too much detail -the story could have been told in half the time! I usually like this type of story, but I wish I had the time it took to listen to this book back. I wouldn't have missed a thing.......
This was one of my all-time favorite audiobooks. I can usually figure mysteries out well in advance of the ending, but this one kept me on my toes until the very last word. In addition, the narrator's different voices for each character were superb - I grew up in Tennessee and can usually spot a fake southern accent a mile away, but not so in this case. I have already recommended this audiobook to several of my friends.
