"History with a sense of humor"
This is a true classic! I loved listening to the the stories thru the eyes of the different woman of the south. Although the topic of the Civil Rights movement and the cruelty that African Americans endured during that time in history was awful the author has you laughing at times and other times crying. I would recommend this book to all my friends, I didn't want it to end.
"Ruined for American Men"
I've just got to say ladies, if Phil doesn't melt you with his masculine sexy Irish accent through out this romantic story than you need your hormone levels checked out. I'm ready to jump on a plane to Scotland and find me a fine young lad to call me lass. His reading alone made it for me, no other Irish man will do for me. I hear his voice and I melt. He's yummy in my world!
"Dragged on too Long"
For one thing I couldn't tell one voice from the other from the narrator and the story line just dragged on too long. Too much detail not enough story.
"Keeps you guessing"
I loved this book because it was narrated wonderfully from the view points of 3 characters and 3 different narators. It kept me guessing the whole time who was guilty. I recommend it.
"Great Story - Terrible Recording"
I found myself in love with the story but always fussing with my ipod to turn up the volume and down other times on different chapters. I now know what everyone else was speaking of when I read the reviews, you can hear people in the background recording. I am amazed that audible allows this poor quality recording on their website, a big disappointment. I honestly loved the story and wished it could of been heard with better quality.
"Disappointed Fan"
I am in agreement with the other reviews, when the first dialogue came from Peabody, I played the audio back at least 3 times because I kept on thinking I must of missed something...I did.. the familiar voice I had known and grown fond of as Peabody. I have gone in order of the series and can't tell you how disapointed I was that several of the characters voices had been altered. Perhaps if it were done in the first or two but not the 13th. My fault for not reading reviews prior to purchase but I didn't think I had to. Lesson learned.
"Addict"
I have fallen in love with these characters. Susan Ericksen is a master at the naration. I know immediately from the accent if Eve, Rorke, Mavis, etc. is speaking. I find myself at the end of the book wanting more. I would suggest listening in order as their are often references to past cases that were solved.
"Loved It!"
The author takes you on a journey through history that has you feeling as if you were there. You can appreciate the struggles of the working class during that era. The narator is good but sometimes had the same sounding voice for different characters which sometimes made it hard to follow. Overall a great read.
