"Difficult to follow"
Maybe it's just me, as I had read such positive reviews about this book. But I have had to restart this audio book countless times, as I found the story line difficult to follow.. At times you are not immediately aware that the author had jumped back several decades to the subject's childhood, or to his marriage or to the present day. It was well read however, enjoyed the narrator's Irish accent.
"Sheer boredom"
I have read and enjoyed other books by this author, and chose this one to listen to on while on our winter vacation. I was so disappointed and bored with this story that I finally gave up three-fourths way into the book, choosing to not waste any more of my time with this. I found the plot initially interesting, but the story line became quite convoluted, dragging on with boring detail but without any substance to hold the listeners interest. The narration was interesting in itself, but not enough so to overcome the completely uninspiring and unimaginative story line. Sorry I wasted my time and money on this one.
"Spellbinding"
This is a memorable story, full of heart-wrenching love and tragedy, described with palpable emotion.
Many twists and turns through the entire story. Wonderful narration by both Bianca Amato and Jill Tanner. I listened to this at night and found it kept me awake long past when I should have been asleep, and stayed in my thoughts throughout the days following. Will definitely look for more from Diane Setterfield.
"Suspense and Intrigue"
Well written. Interesting, suspenseful but slightly predictible. Narration was a little distracting when female narrator attempted to sound like Spanish-speaking characters, especially the male characters.
