"One of my top ten audiobooks"
This too-short series is a terrific read/listen. The characters are are rich, vital, and quirky with distinctive character flaws that make them incredibly tangible. The balance of character development and driving storyline is flawless. I found all three of the books very hard to stop listening to and the characters and their predicament stayed with me even when I wasn't listening. Once you've read one, you won't be able to stop and you'll be sorry when they're over.
"Great location pick"
I really enjoyed the new setting and getting to know some new characters that will continue on in books to come. I found the small town refreshing and fearfully familiar. Good work.
"My Favourite (so far)"
This is the book I've been waiting for - one where we get to know our protagonist a bit more intimately. I'm glad to see the veil is being lifted.
"Wonderful"
Really enjoyed the complexity of the story and the vibrant performance of Scott Brick. I got some excellent answers to some long-standing questions.
"Excellent"
I really enjoyed meeting Pendergast and it was the beginning of a long and rewarding relationship.
"Solid story and performance"
Preston and Child have done a very good job of this story. I especially enjoy their historical details and since I'm Canadian, I find the American history tidbits particularly exotic and engaging. The reader is lively and varied bringing an excellent energy and enthusiasm to the story. You can feel his affinity for the characters. Well done.
"These characters will be with me for years"
The performance is excellent, the story exciting, and the characters - unforgettable. This series is one of the best I've ever read and you'd be hard-pressed to find a more engaging story if you like action and rich, strong characters. My advice - read them in order and give yourself the time to really enjoy them. It's hard to believe this is a translation - the English is superb.
"What a great story"
In spite of some slightly dated references, the story was totally engaging and we cared about the characters and what would happen next. My husband and I listened to it together as a bedtime story and it engendered many important discussions about general emergency preparedness and the state of the the world economy and food supply. This is a fascinating look at humans under extreme duress with a balanced view of the good, the bad and the ugly.
