I am only 2 hours into this story but I had to write a quick review. Quite often I will start another audio book within hours after finishing the previous one. This makes my brain take a while to adjust to a whole new set of characters and world settings (sometimes space setttings). Not so with this book.
As soon as the story starts Mr Thomas makes the characters believable and the story flows smoothly. The high school students interaction with each other and their parents are in sync.
I have to admit that I am a believer that men are better narrators, they can make female voices better than females can make male voices. That said Mr. Andrews is very good and he doesn't have an English accent which would seriously marr an American setting.
I bought this book in the $5 special that Audible had. I am going to look for more Thomas/Andrews combinations in future purchases.
I have purchased over 350 books and I don't write reviews, until now. The whole concept is original. It has it all: Intrigue, Good guy / Bad guy. a gorgeous woman who is bad ass yet innocent. Plot twists and believable characters.
Hollywood needs new ideas to make into movies. They have been cranking out remakes way too often. This book should be made into a movie.
Jeff Gurner did an excellent job of voices and enthusiasm to keep the story going.
I know that I am going to listen to this book probably 2 times a year for unknown number of years. It is in my top 5 list.
This story is so captivating and its down to earth humor is killing me! Mike Talbot is one heck of a character as are all of the people he meets up with. Sean Runnette is a heck of a narrator and makes it sound easy to change the voices to keep the characters alive. I hope this story keeps on going. Each time I buy a new book I re-listen to the whole series.
This is the second review I have ever written. The first because the narrator was just SO bad. And this one because EVRYTHING was just SOOOO good. I bought this book because it was any only book, not a series. Now I wish it was a series. John Streakley wrote an easy to follow while just listening book. Tom Weiner narrated it with fantastic vocal inflictions. I have listened to great stories written that just did not carry over when listened to. Not this book. While listening to this book I had no problems envisioning what was going on all throughout.
I went to the internet to see if Mr. Steakley has written other books about Amour. It looks like he has started a sequel in 2004, but it is not done, or not published yet. The official unofficial web-site isn't kept up very often.
WOW. I can say no more. A Fantastic Author. A Fantastic Narrator.
