I am old enough to remember many of the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo flights and all the excitement they brought. This book helped me to get a much better picture of the events of these missions and to more fully appreciate the immense complexity of space travel. Gene Krantz wrote this book in such a way that even though I knew the outcome of each of the flights, I still felt like I was on the "edge of my seat" waiting to hear how each of them turned out! The book included enough technical details that it would interest those with a science background, but it explained the details so well that it is understandable to non-science people.
Danny Campbell was an excellent reader of this book. I had trouble remembering it wasn't really Gene Krantz talking to me!
I have been a faithful listener of the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency books for years. I also have the print versions of most of the books in the series, but I prefer to listen because of Lisette Lecat's beautiful narration. I savor each of these books, and I kind of ration myself in listening in order to help the book last longer! I eagerly anticipate the next book in the series.
I received this book as a freebie from Audible in a Valentine's promotional. I listened to it on a 3-hour drive one afternoon, so it worked well for that. I found the story to be interesting enough to help the time pass but not interesting enough that I would have wanted to pay for it.
