Ryder is the hardest Montgomery brother to figure out - with a tough-as-nails outside and possibly nothing too soft underneath. He’s surly and unsociable, but when he straps on a tool belt, no woman can resist his sexy swagger. Except, apparently, Hope Beaumont, the innkeeper of his own Inn BoonsBoro.... As the former manager of a D.C. hotel, Hope is used to excitement and glamour, but that doesn’t mean she can’t appreciate the joys of small-town living. She’s where she wants to be - except for in her love life....

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Still listening- the MAJOR problem is the dual narration. HATE IT!! Arghh- it continually interrupts a great story. At times -so frustrating. I would probably love this book otherwise. If not for the LOUSY narration.

Would you recommend Vanished to your friends? Why or why not?

LOUSY dual narration. Constantly pulls you out of the story.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Nick Podehl and Amy McFadden ?

    N/A. ONE NARRARATOR!!!!

Could you see Vanished being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    Uhmm - heck no

    Any additional comments?

Probably a good book - LOUSY NARRATION.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone who doesn't require realistic characters and dialogue.

What was most disappointing about J. D. Faver’s story?

Nothing wrong with the plot....but these characters - yikes! First off, inept adults who talk like a bad who-dunit movie. No one - at least not in my world - talks like this. My dear, darling....sounds ok - but when put into the story - not so much. There's a PI in the story that is so inept it's hard to understand why she would ever be trusted. And don't get me started on the Scottish luxury car rental driver who bodyguards because - hey he's really big. And he goes trotting off to the US of A to play bodyguard. First thing that happens - he gets knocked out because he never saw anyone coming at him. Wow. Some bodyguard. Then you have the main character up in the wilds of Alaska. Falls in love with her boss and everything is la, la, la....perfect. Suddenly she goes from being a scared rabbit to amazon woman. Really? And the crazy, sadistic husband that's hunting for her? Cartoon whack job is what he is. Must have gotten his character from Villains 'R Us.

How could the performance have been better?

The performance couldn't be any better because the content being read was so lousy.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    Yeah, it finally ended.

What disappointed you about She Can Hide?

I listened to about 3/4's of this book when the main character pulled the ultimate bone headed - too stupid to live - action. I can tolerate a lot of things in a book - but I cannot stand a dumb character. This chick is dumb as a brick....I couldn't even finish the book.

What could Melinda Leigh have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Not rely on an obvious - too stupid to live - action by the main character to advance the plot. I like smart women who know when it's time to let the professionals take over. Brave is one thing - stupid quite another. These newer authors need to go back and read Linda Howard, Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb, etc. They know how to write a good plot without reducing the main character to stupidity to advance said plot.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Amy Rubinate?

    She was fine.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

    Irritation....

    Any additional comments?

****Spoiler Alert*** When you are sleeping with a cop - why would you abandon his protection to go off and play detective thinking you could save the day when there are dead bodies stacking up like cord wood and you have no clue how to locate the bad guys. Stupid is as stupid does I suppose. I have enjoyed the other books in this series - this one bombed.....

    Any additional comments?

I have waited for this book with high anticipation. I love the series and Donovan's story was one I looked forward to reading. Except, there was very little storyline and what there was annoyed me mostly. I have an intense dislike of the BIG MISUNDERSTANDING plot. To me, that is lazy writing at best - reminiscent of '80s bodice ripper romance novels. One simple conversation would have prevented disaster. I found the character of Eve to be mostly too stupid to live. Yikes, what a disappointment!

FBI Special Agent Clare Marshall was separated from her sister Beth in childhood when their mother tried to kill them. Now, Clare learns that Beth lives in the small town of Farley, South Carolina but when she goes there to reunite with Beth, Clare discovers her sister is missing and that someone in the town is responsible for her disappearance. Clare receives an offer to help with the search from fellow FBI Special Agent Jake Sutton. The offer is too good to refuse though that is exactly what Clare wants to do.

    What disappointed you about Gone?

I found the character of Claire to be an insular, brittle character. While I get the angst about her past...she blames Jake for walking away - but in my opinion he had good reason. She continues to pout about him walking away - while freely admitting she can only give so much of herself and waaaahhh...why isn't that enough? Chicken....Then there's the plot. I found the set up of how Clare winds up in this little out of the way town in South Carolina where her former lover Jake just happens to live an is a "resident" FBI agent highly implausible. So Clare is looking for her sister, she is supposed to be an FBI agent, but she pulls the really dumb and very trite mistake of going into dangerous situations with no back-up. When the main characters start down that road - I find it very hard to keep buying into the plot. Not to mention when you head into the climax and she has the tactical advantage at one point and doesn't follow thru and finish the job....and turns her freaking back on the bad guy before being sure he is down! Yikes that is soooooo dumb.

Has Gone turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No

How could the performance have been better?

Worst southern accents ever! I am a southerner....we don't talk that way. Really. And why do southerners from small towns always get portrayed as redneck and not quite bright! Insulting!

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

A bit of anger and disappointment in the overall book.

Has Sleep with the Lights On turned you off from other books in this genre?

No...but it isn't a Romantic Suspense per se...just has elements. More straight suspense.

    Any additional comments?

This book had a good plot - however the first distraction for me was the constant 1st and 3rd person narratives jumping back and forth. I dislike 1st person as I prefer more than one character perspective in a book. While this one had 3rd person narrative - it was annoying jumping back and forth and drew me out of the story every time. My biggest gripe was the main character. I found her mean and fake. I tried to like her - but how do you respect someone who admits they have made a fortune writing "crap" that she doesn't even believe herself. No apologies - just sheer arrogance. She spent her career covering that not only is she not the "Queen of Nice" but basically, she is a b***h. Evidently this is a trait her friends and family find endearing for reasons that escape my understanding. I found her to be a narcissistic jerk. Not to mention...too stupid to live - which in my opinion is the greater of the personalty faults. She continually put herself in danger....this trait is a crutch authors use to advance a plot that is the final nail in the book coffin for me. Lousy and and lazy writing in my opinion when you can't write a character with intelligence and yet have suspense. Suspense shouldn't be manufactured out of a character doing something really, really stupid in order to get the story to the climax of the book. Yikes - really annoying. So...done with this author.

    Absolutely not...

It came across as amateurish because the narration was so very bad. I know Sharon Sala writes a good book as a rule - but the poor reading really colored my perception of the story.

What was most disappointing about Jaycee Clark’s story?

I cannot abide a woman in a book who is obviously in danger insisting on constantly putting herself in danger because "that psycho isn't going to change what I do and how I do it." Really - so be really stupid...I'm sure you'll die satisfied in knowing he didn't change the way you did things...yikes, I cannot stand stupid characters.

There wouldn't be a lot of book left.
