Set on both sides of the Atlantic, Zadie Smith's third novel is a brilliant analysis of family life, the institution of marriage, intersections of the personal and political, and an honest look at people's deceptions. It is also, as you might expect, very funny indeed.

The reader is absolutely fabulous. The writing style is very good. The actual novel, plot, characters, etc., are dismal. I was extremely disappointed and had to force myself to continue to the end. I'm not sure even that was worth it.

Escaping an arranged marriage, 17-year-old Ismae finds sanctuary in the St. Mortain convent, where the sisters worship the gods of old. There, Ismae learns that the God of Death has special plans for her—a destiny that will one day compel her to betray the man she loves.

I found this story very enjoyable and the narrator was terrific. It was a fun story with some very interesting twists and I would definitely recommend it. There were a few holes (of course they'd teach an assassin to fight in dress clothes), but they were minor and not too distracting. I will definitely be reading the sequels.

Deep in the stacks of Oxford's Bodleian Library, young scholar Diana Bishop unwittingly calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript in the course of her research. Descended from an old and distinguished line of witches, Diana wants nothing to do with sorcery; so after a furtive glance and a few notes, she banishes the book to the stacks. But her discovery sets a fantastical underworld stirring, and a horde of daemons, witches, and vampires soon descends upon the library.

this was a lot of fun. it's set apart (at least a little) from the other star-crossed vampire-ish love stories by the quality and depth of the history and literary insight. I loved the house's personality. I almost think it is my favorite character, aside from Diana.

and seriously, this narrator is fantastic!!!!!!

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

this was a really enjoyable story. it kept me on the edge of my seat. i was a little distracted by some of the random cursing. it just seemed unnecessary. but aside from that, I liked this and look forward to other books by this author. the narrator was fabulous.

Larry Ott and Silas “32” Jones were unlikely boyhood friends. Larry was the child of lower middle-class white parents, Silas the son of a poor, single, black mother - their worlds as different as night and day. Yet a special bond developed between them in Chabot, Mississippi. But within a few years, tragedy struck. In high school, a girl who lived up the road from Larry had gone to the drive-in movie with him and nobody had seen her again.

The subject matter made me so upset: kids being mean to kids, races being mean to different races, prejudice, misconceptions. But the author wrote about it all so very well. His style is fantastic.

So, even though I was troubled at times, it was still a terrific book. And I would recommend it to others.

On top of that, the narrator was outstanding!

Museum researcher Margo Green must find out who - or what - is doing the killing.

    Any additional comments?

This book seemed like a movie, in a way. It was written well -- good dialog, vocabulary, and the like. But the plot was just very movie like. I guess that's not a bad thing.

    The narrator was outstanding!!!

Overall, I think it was entertaining, if a tad long.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

The work tells the story of Jane's early life, her experience at Lowood School and as a governess. Her refusal to accept Rochester's love on any but her own strictly moral terms is a passionate cry for independence.

Jane Eyre is, of course, a fabulous book. But when narrated by Juliet Stevenson, it is brought to life in the most satisfying way. I have loved listening to this book and getting to know the characters (again) through Ms. Stevenson's lively narration.

About three things I was certain. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him, and I didn't know how dominant that part might be, that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.
