It was written to be a comprehensive of Churchill's perspective of the war so the series is best appreciated as a whole piece.
He sounds so much like Winston Churchill, from what few voice recordings we Americans are familiar with, it seems as if he were telling the story himself.
I would not take this as the definative history of WWII, any more than another from perhaps, a US or USSR memoir. I do value it's perspective taken from Churchill's own personal diaries and what official papers could be revealed at the time, so it gives a very personal view of the war. Luckily, we can all appreicate Churchill's fine memory, sense of humor and a distinctive prose style .

I did not enjoy the story becasue I was so distracted by Ann's self absorbtion and total lack of ability to think before she spoke ( on and on and on). I believe we are supposed to find the poor little orphan girl endearing. I just wanted her to be quite a moment.
Yes, but I hope her characters or a bit more realistic than Ann Shirley
The end when she finally grew up and stopped to think before she gushed.
Anything by Tolkien is worth every moment of time spent reading, and we have waited a very long time to have a great audio production of this beloved story. I'm just not sure I would buy the Lord of the Rings Trilogy narrated by Mr Inglis.
There are so many-we quote entire passages to one another at home. Perhaps my favorite part is little Bilbo stuffing his friends into the barrels and not realizing he needs one for himself until it is nearly too late. It is funny and a bit hair-raising and written with such affection for Bilbo it makes one smile and tear up a bit.
He seemed a bit slow and ponderous and made Thorin Oakenshield sound positively morose. In the exciting parts I wanted him to SOUND more excited. Mr Inglis' pacing was exactly the same throughout the narration as well as for each character, such that the story felt depressing and the characters all sounded detached.
It has, silly, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy for starters.
I lissten to many of the books in my Audible Library repeatedly. I'm not sure I will listen to this version of the Hobbit often, due to the unsatisfying narration.
