The story itself is quite engaging on the surface but it seems very clear that an agenda is being pursued with this story that makes it, frankly, difficult to believe and that ultimately ruins the narrative. Ed Herman is aces though.

I am an avid fan of zombie fiction and this was a huge surprise for me. Fantastic story and one of the best performances from a narrator that I have ever heard - I was literally brought to tears at one point. As I said this is one of the best of the genre. Wow - well done.

Really bad bad guys, mad scientists, mosters, evil plots to take over the world, hidden underground lairs, a secret government agency, none-stop action, and the baddest good guy ever - Joe Ledger. This is a great book.
To top it off Ray Porter's narration is world class, some of the best I've ever heard.
I'm becoming a big fan of Jonathan Maberry and Ray Porter.

I don't believe this book contains a single original idea and their attitudes towards women would be more in line with a book written by Clive Cussler in the 1970's. I'm dumber for having read this.

Clancy gets 2 stars solely due to his research for this book much of the rest filled with him taking cheap political and personal shots at democrats. He goes to such laughably ridiculous lengths to make the dems look inept, corrupt, and down right evil that the Osama Bin Laden character comes out looking like the better person. Democrats prosecuting an army ranger for murder because he shot Taliban soldiers on the field of battle? Please.

This is just an absolutely great action/adventure/zombie tale. Fun, fast paced, and even funny this novel marks the first in what is the Joe Ledger series - I really enjoyed this one and can't wait for the next. As icing on the cake Ray Porters narration is perfect, and I mean perfect. Every character has their very distict voice, there is never any question of who is speaking and he moves seemlessly between them. Of the thousands of audio books I've listened to this is one of the best performances I have heard. I will be looking for more books narrated by him simply because they ARE narrated by him.

Most of this book is not narrated by David Sedaris, obviously, and this proves to be a huge mistake. I have heard the first story in this book narrated by both David Sedaris and the person who narrates it in this book, in the first case it was very funny but in the second you are left asking yourself what was the bigger waste of time - recording that story or listening to it. Narration matters and David Sedaris is one of the best there is and it just boggles the mind that he did not narrate this entire book.

I've really enjoyed many of Douglas Preston's works but I have to say that this one left me wanting. The character development is poor and frankly the story line is weak to the point of being laughable and it gets progressively worse at the book progresses. As other reviwers mentioned it seems as if the author tried to wrap-up the story quickly without a clear idea as to how to finish it.

Only Koontz could have gotten this train wreck published. It is very clear that the author was only half way through writing this book and then decided to quit - and that's the good news. The bad news is that he wrote the first half. You have been warned.

What more can I say? I loved this book, it was well written, well researched and the storey is utterly fascinating. Early in the book I could not bring myself to like Pat Tillman or respect the choices he made, by the end he was my hero.
