"light and different"
I enjoyed this book. It's very short and very light. I learned a lot about Indian culture.
"one of my favorite audible downloads"
I love how weird Stephen King's writing has become. Take a sunny, happy place like the Keys and leave it to the King to make it horrific. As always, his character development is superb and the story keeps you hooked. If you like his post-accident work, you will not be disappointed with this one.
"life-changing"
This book was life changing for me. I thought I knew a lot about what I ate, but Michael Pollan opened my eyes to what I am putting in my mouth and my family's mouth . After listening to this book I became a full fledged vegetarian - that was about 10 months ago. I still cook meat for my family, but am much more thoughtful about what I buy. He can drone on a bit, however, and goes into more detail than necessary, at times.
"wannabe Lisbeth Salander"
This book has me rolling my eyes and cringing a lot. Stevens has made a dumb imitation of lisbeth salander in his main character. The writing is often hokey and the characters are two dimensional. Save your credits and listen to the "Dragon Tattoo" trilogy again.
"very dark"
Certainly a lot of intrigue - but overall, a very dark novel.
"melodic and touching"
The readers voices were melodic and beautiful, But the story and the characters themselves are what is truly beautiful. I loved, loved, loved this book.
"great audiobook"
Of all the audiobooks I've heard, i think this is the one that most lends itself to the audio format. I loved listening to the different voices in the novel. It was moving - uplifting and heartbreaking, a true pleasure to hear.
"beautiful prose"
This series of books is my happy place. Okay, I've never been to Africa and might very likely be shocked if I were to go, but to think that a place like Mma Ramotswe's Botswana exists just makes me feel better, especially at the end of a long and hard day. Oh please, Mr. MCall Smith, give us more.
"yawn"
As a middle school teacher I am exposed to a lot of YA literature, some of which I really enjoy. This book, however, was not one of them. There was a lot of superficial violence which I suppose was to try and build suspense but, really, the book just kept dragging on. Eventually, I just gave up and stopped listening.
"bad sound quallity"
I agree with the other critiques of this audio version of the new testament; the sound quality is poor and the acting is awkward. It just sounds low budget. A disappointment.
