A New York Times best-selling author and multiple Bram Stoker Award winner, Marvel Comics writer Jonathan Maberry continues the story he began in Rot and Ruin. Six months have passed since Benny Imura and Nix Riley learned that flesh-eating zombies aren’t the scariest or most dangerous monsters around. Now, Benny’s brother Tom is training them in the art of zombie whacking. But as they plan to leave and find a better future, a zombie attack puts a crimp in their plans.

If you could sum up Dust and Decay in three words, what would they be?

    Atypical of genre.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dust and Decay?

There is a scene in which the main character accompanies his older brother to "quiet" a zombie. It is a pivotal moment in their relationship and in the book. The moments just prior are full of suspense and the scene itself is intensely emotional.

Which character – as performed by Brian Hutchison – was your favorite?

I think my favorite would have to be the main character's older brother, Tom. He's got so many admirable qualities. He is an honorable man who has taken over the care of his younger brother since the death of their parents 8 years prior to the start of the book. The more that is revealed about him during the course of the book, the more I grew to like him. The narration in general, while not bad, was not great either and I listened to it at 1.5x normal speed.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I would have but it was too long to hear all at once.

    Any additional comments?

I'm a huge horror fan and have many zombie books. My 13 year old daughter also loves all things spooky and I got this for her as her first zombie book. It's perfect for her. The young characters are well-written and their dialogue, thoughts and emotions are believable. The book is more about the relationships between the characters, the difference between living and survival and morality than about zombies. While there are some suspenseful scenes and violence, there isn't the graphic violence and gore typical of the genre. Since I bought this for my daughter, I'm not complaining.

    What disappointed you about Monster?

I can't say this is a terrible book or that the narrator did an awful job. Certainly there are many people who loved and highly recommended it. It's just not something that held my interest, which surprised me. I love horror/comedy and have a twisted, irreverent sense of humor. I think I was hoping for something that was a little more thrilling, like Mark Tufo's "Zombie Fallout" series. I'm not sure if it was the writing or narration but it seemed like the characters in the book had such subdued reactions to everything.

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Not sure.....maybe Bill the Vampire.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Eric Michael Summerer?

Phil Gigante, Holter Graham, Oliver Wyman or Craig Wasson...there are a number of excellent narrators. Again, I can't say that the book or narrator was awful. It simply wasn't my style.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Monster?

In all honesty, I can't answer this fairly because I couldn't listen longer than an hour without falling asleep.

Like no other suspense author in his genre, Follett reinvents the thriller with each new storyline. But nothing matches the intricate, knife-edge drama of Whiteout.

What did you love best about Whiteout?

The combination of an intense story, detailed, believable characters and great narration transported me to Scotland as a silent witness to each scene. I was hooked from start to finish.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Without question the lead character, Toni Gallo, was my favorite. She is smart, vulnerable, dedicated, strong and determined.

What about Josephine Bailey’s performance did you like?

She does a good job with the narration and I love her accent, especially given the book's setting.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There are several but describing them would be giving away information that could spoil someone's enjoyment of the book.

Teenage delinquent Angel Crawford lives with her redneck father in the swamps of southern Louisiana. She's a high school dropout, addicted to drugs and alcohol, and has a police record a mile long. But when she's made into a zombie after a car crash, her addictions disappear, except for her all-consuming need to stay "alive".

If you could sum up My Life as a White Trash Zombie in three words, what would they be?

    What a surprise!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Definitely the lead character, Angel. She is spunky, strong, smart, flawed, vulnerable and determined. I should note that anyone who has a problem with excessive profanity should probably skip this series. While it didn't bother me, the lead character talks like a trucker raised in a bordello.

    Which scene was your favorite?

Hmmm....I wouldn't want to describe it and give away any spoilers.

If you could rename My Life as a White Trash Zombie, what would you call it?

That's a tough question. While the title may turn some potential buyers away, I've got to admit that it gets one's attention.

    Any additional comments?

I purchased this one by accident and considered returning it without listening to it but decided to at least give it a chance first. I'm so glad I did! It's entertaining and funny with a very likable main character.

There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Would you listen to 14 again? Why?

Definitely. I was completely engrossed from the very beginning. I couldn't wait to see what would happen next and was constantly on the edge of my seat for the last half of the book. I couldn't wait for the next piece of the mystery to be discovered and, with new piece of the puzzle, I was more intrigued then chilled as the truth was finally revealed.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I couldn't choose a specific character as a favorite. All of the primary characters were well-written and voiced.

What about Ray Porter’s performance did you like?

The narrator did a great job voicing all of the different characters although I did listen to it at 1.5 speed.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was too long to hear in one sitting but I would have liked to if it were possible.

    Any additional comments?

    Mystery, suspense, romance and horror...hurrah!

If you could sum up Beautiful Creatures in three words, what would they be?

    Entertaining, amazing and utterly delightful!

What did you like best about this story?

From the fantastic story, excellent narration, engaging characters and the inclusion of subtle sound effects and music, this audio book has too many great features to choose one and say it was better than the others. They all combined to capture me from the very beginning, and never let me go. I didn't listen to this book; I experienced it. There aren't enough stars to accurately rate this one.

Which character – as performed by Kevin T. Collins – was your favorite?

While I loved the two main characters, my favorite is bad girl, Ridley. It's easy to root for the good guys and against the bad in most stories. There are a few characters in this book that aren't easily pigeonholed. Ridley's definitely dark with a sassy and saucy "since I'm headed to hell I might as well enjoy the ride down" attitude. Her cheeky humor and trademark lollipop cracked me up and the glimpses of girl she used to be made me feel for her.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It's too long to listen to in one sitting but I would have loved to. This was one of those "listen to in the car, while making dinner, doing housework and ANY you can until it's done" books.

    Any additional comments?

I have an extensive collection of audio books in a variety of different genres and this is my absolute favorite. The movie didn't do it any justice.
