I really enjoy Kate Wilhelm novels and found this be no exception. In fact this is one of my favorites for some of the reasons many of the other reviewers disliked it, i.e. some futuristic topics thrown in, NW scenery and cleanly written relationship scenarios. I am relieved to hear the double sentences are not an error of my equipment, but what gives!
I do no usually write reviews decided to do when I was surprised to see this book was not more highly rated. I enjoyed it and I usually listen to this type of book(psychological thriller/police mystery/serial killers etc.). This is not the most suspenseful, or most intricately developed one I have ever listened to but I have gone back to it seveal times and would buy it again. I was not repelled by the main character's emmotional immobilization in her personal life as contrasted with her style in her professional life. The tone of the book seemed reality-based to me but then I don't live in London.
I'm not looking for glamour or unreality but this work did not engage or involve me with the characters or their lives. This is one of my favorite types of novel so it isn't that I was expecting something else. It gave the description "dry" new meaning. Narration was staccato and fairly flat in keeping with the overall tone.
