Imagine that your husband wrote you a letter, to be opened after his death. Imagine, too, that the letter contains his deepest, darkest secret - something with the potential to destroy not just the life you built together, but the lives of others as well. Imagine, then, that you stumble across that letter while your husband is still very much alive....

What made the experience of listening to The Husband's Secret the most enjoyable?

I loved the way the Author went back and forth with the characters...leaving you hang for a chapter or two!

What other book might you compare The Husband's Secret to and why?

I really don't have a comparison as this was my first experience with Moriarty, she is great!

What about Caroline Lee’s performance did you like?

Oh first of all her Aussie accent! She also has a great way of changing her voice so that you know right away what character she is playing...great!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were so many moments that moved me and surprised me...If you think you know where she is going, get ready for a major plot twist. Of course the ending moved me the most, anyone who has a family and goes through ups and downs...they will adore this book!

    Any additional comments?

I literally could not put this book down! I stayed up all night listening, waiting for the next twist, I read constantly...I have to say that this Author is now in my top 10!

As a pastor working in a neighborhood with the highest concentration of murderous gang activity in Los Angeles, Gregory Boyle created an organization to provide jobs, job training, and encouragement so that young people could work together and learn the mutual respect that comes from collaboration.

Would you consider the audio edition of Tattoos on the Heart to be better than the print version?

Oh absolutely! I listen to a lot of books but I always listen to the sample first because I want to hear the narrator, which in this case is the author. It starts out strange sounding in the very beginning...do not be swayed. Gregory Boyle's voice will be in my mind for days, maybe weeks to come!

Who was your favorite character and why?

There were so many, but Feli...OMG I was laughing so hard tears were streaming down my face. His honesty and innocence is so refreshing...you just can't believe he was a gang banger. This really goes for so many of the characters, as sad as the stories are, the kids have a way of talking that just makes you laugh out loud, very loud!

Have you listened to any of Gregory Boyle’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my first experience with Gregory Boyle but it will not be my last! I was riveted, the book was about 6 hrs long and I did not move!!! I could not believe he is Irish Catholic because his Spanish is so beautiful, he is so beautiful!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I only moved to get coffee but I took my Kindle with me! I will listen to this again, I grabbed my journal and could not write fast enough. Kinship, I can't wait to read what I wrote. I have never been so touched by a book in my life and I read constantly.

    Any additional comments?

I have never felt love for Jesus the way I did listening to this book. I am not a crier but I cried and cried. Happy tears and tears of such deep sorrow, I am an extremely compassionate person but I have been brought to new heights spiritually and just want to hug all the characters, unfortunately that is not possible now, but I have prayed for all of them and especially for Gregory...I thank him from the bottom of my heart. I want everyone to listen to this. My soul feels it's worth!!!

  • Roots: The Saga of an American Family

Why we think it’s a great listen: A masterpiece like none other, Brooks’ powerful performance of Haley’s words has been known to leave listeners in tears. It begins with a birth in an African village in 1750, and ends two centuries later at a funeral in Arkansas. And in that time span, an unforgettable cast of men, women, and children come to life, many of them based on the people from Alex Haley's own family tree.

What did you love best about Roots?

The whole story, traditions and how people took care of eachother under the harshest of times.

What did you like best about this story?

Well, I saw the mini-series years ago and It was phenomenal...but this starts out earlier when Kunte was in Africa. So you really get the feel of family and tradition on that end first which makes the rest all the more intense!

Have you listened to any of Avery Brooks’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was my first experience with Avery Brook's, at first I thought it was a little slow but then as I continued I realized what he was aiming for...this book is real and the more facts and less animation, the better. What an amazing story of finding out where you come from, digging and digging, Avery will make you cry your heart out!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Well, there were so many times when I was very sad and then times when I was happy, but I can only tell you this...By the end of the book I was holding my head in my hands sobbing. This should be required reading, my father is 84 and I bought him a speaker for his Kindle because he has a hard time hearing and ear buds are not for him. He is loving this book!!!

    Any additional comments?

Thank you Alex for this exceptional work, hard work, almost impossible work...You have made it so that this book is in my heart, not just my mind. You had so little to work with but your will was amazing, the fruit does not fall far from the tree and I know that Kunte is smiling down on you!!!!

  • Doctor Sleep: A Novel

Stephen King returns to the characters and territory of one of his most popular novels ever, The Shining, in this instantly riveting novel about the now middle-aged Dan Torrance (the boy protagonist of The Shining) and the very special 12-year-old girl he must save from a tribe of murderous paranormals. This is an epic war between good and evil, a gory, glorious story that will thrill the millions of hyper-devoted fans of The Shining and wildly satisfy anyone new to the territory of this icon in the King canon.

Would you listen to Doctor Sleep again? Why?

Absolutely!!! Just as I would "It", "Insomnia" and anything else by Stephen King. I love when Stephen narrates but he always has great performers!
What I loved was how he did not really re-tell the "Shining", he let the reader know the basics but then went on to tell THIS story, which is great...I I was not sure that I was going to like it because "The Shining", well let me put it this way I still watch it whenever it's on. This was a great book, even if you never saw/read "The Shining", get this 5 stars all the way!

What other book might you compare Doctor Sleep to and why?

Of course "The Shining" because it really gets in to the paranormal! And a little bit of Insomnia, because everything seems so normal, until it's not!

What does Will Patton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

OH!! Will Patton's performance was wonderful! The story line is great but he really has you sitting on the edge of your seat...I love his voice and just as your beginning to relax, watch out, he is sneaky! lol

Who was the most memorable character of Doctor Sleep and why?

I would have to say the Mother, another thing about Will Patton is the way he does her Italian accent. She seems to be more or less in the background...but I knew all the while her role was going to be much bigger than it seemed, I just loved her!!

    Any additional comments?

I have been reading Stephen King forever but I have to say if you can get his books in Audio you will never be disappointed! Stephen King will always be one of my favorite authors, he makes sure his audience can't stop reading/listening. I love him!

In September 2007, Elissa Wall, the star witness against polygamous sect leader Warren Jeffs, gave captivating testimony of how Jeffs forced her to marry her first cousin at age 14. This harrowing account proved to be the most compelling evidence against Jeffs, showing the harsh realities of this closed community and the lengths to which Jeffs went in order to control the sect's women. Now, in this courageous memoir, Wall tells the incredible story of how she emerged from the confines of the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints and helped bring one of America's most notorious criminals to justice.

Would you listen to Stolen Innocence again? Why?

Absolutely, as soon as it ended I knew I would listen again!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Elise, her story went from happy to the depths of hell and back to a wonderful, new world. Her purpose for writing this book was if she could help just one person...I am sure she has and will continue to help thousands!!! She is so brave and I wish her the very best life has to offer...If you see this Elissa, I love you...

What does Renée Raudman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Now that I have been listening to books, I jotted down her name because I will be looking for her as a narrator...I don't think any one could have captured the highs and lows the way Renee did, she is now one of my favorite narrators. I just want to say that if I don't like the narrator I just can't like the book, so Kudo's to Renee, awesome job!!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Keeping Sweet

    Any additional comments?

Just that I came away from this book more knowledgeable, disturbed by many of the events...but at the end, I was lifted to a higher plane.
