Fast, blinding, tragic.
This is a classic. It presents a glaring portrait into the period, love and a man.
Jake Gyllenhaal's performance was nothing short of perfect. It's ironic, I have never been a huge admirer of his acting but having heard him perform Gatsby I don't think any other reader would ever do for me from here on out. I believe another reviewer indicated sometimes you find the perfect narrator for a given novel. Gyllenhaal is definitely that for Gatsby.
If you enjoy dark, I guess this might work for you.
The performance wasn't too bad. I just didn't really enjoy the book.
It had some interesting concepts.
I've enjoyed other books by this author. This one was just very dark and worse predictable. I am usually ok with dark books, but something about this one I just did not enjoy. Other than Pookie, the funny side-kick, the main characters are pretty unlikeable. And I could see most of what was coming way in advance. Just too formulaic and depressing overall.
