This book is about 3 seemingly successful women dealing with big issues in their lives - I really like this type of book. They're dealing with major issues, not just romance, so it's really interesting. My only complaint is the narrator reads too quickly. My current MP3 device doesn't have the function to slow down the speed, but in the past when I have been able to do that, I don't like how it sounds. But, I liked the book well enough to get past the narrator because other than reading fast, she's a good narrator.
I loved The Good House & this wasn't as good as her previous book, but it was a fairly good story. No one knows what really goes on inside a marriage.
This was such a good book! The narrator was excellent too. Very compelling story.
I was a fan of the early John Grisham books, but they've gradually gotten worse over the years to the point that I had no desire to read any of them the last 5 years. Until this one - it's absolutely his best book in 20 years. I couldn't stop listening, then I listened to the end of the book again because it was such a good ending. I highly recommend this one!
I've had this book for quite a while & started it a few times, but couldn't get interested in the beginning. Once I got past the first couple of chapters, I was hooked. I really like southern literature & the narrator is perfect. It's like having a conversation with a friend - very enjoyable!
Once I started listening, I couldn't stop - totally pulled me into the story. I can see this book being made into a movie! The narrator spoke a little too fast at times, but otherwise was fine. Totally enjoyed listening to this one!
I'm a long-time Dean Koontz fan, but this book wasn't in my top 10, not even in my top 25. It was just OK. I didn't like the ending at all.
This is an enchanting & thoughtful book. The narrator is absolutely perfect for Melody & that makes the story even better. It makes you think about how you live your life, what you can do & how you do it. A must listen!
15 minutes was way too short - I wanted more, but what a perfect 15 minutes! I wasn't interested in seeing the movie until I listened to this segment & listened to Ben Stiller's section afterward. What a fun imagination!
This book is written in such an honest & beautiful way. The characters seem real & you become more invested in their lives as the story goes on. You feel for Isabelle as she decides to be honest with people about her life & as she discovers the meaning of friendship. You feel for Amy in a totally different way, as she discovers her sexuality & all the mistakes she makes. I couldn't stop listening, but didn't want the story to end.
I debated for months about getting this book because of some of the reviews saying it portrayed prison life as "fun" - I couldn't disagree more. The author was very honest about being afraid of most everyone constantly, learning what could get you in trouble with other inmates, the lack of edible food (except what could be stolen from the kitchen & cooked in one communal microwave without getting caught), strip searches after every visitation, the lack of privacy & any comforts. Some things could be purchased from commissary for about 100 times the actual cost, if you had money. Working could pass the time at 14 cents/hour, otherwise there's no freedom to do anything. I can't imagine living that way for even a month.
The author was very honest about how she ended up in a federal prison & even if you don't think you could be lured into a situation like that, no one really knows, especially in your 20's, - and the fact that she was arrested 10 years later is very scary, after she got her life on track & thought she'd avoided any serious consequences for her poor decisions. I thought this book was very eye-opening about life in a federal prison. The excellent narration added to the experience.
I for one appreciate my life even more, just being able to go to the refrigerator any time I want to grab a snack, to shower when I want, dress in my own clean clothes, sleep in a bed between the sheets instead of on top of the sheet, and to watch TV whenever I want. Well worth the credit!
