When I read the summary of the book, I thought this would be a book about Eloise & the changes required of her life when she suddenly inherits her sister's children. I thought I had somehow skipped part of the book when all of a sudden, the children were in the 20's and the book was all about them, not about Eloise at all. The narrator is OK, not great, and the story is OK to listen to, but definitely not what I was expecting or what I wanted the story to be about.
This was a creepy stalker book, but it really kept my attention all the way through & the narrator did a really good job. He had such good narration skills for the stalker part, sounding sexy & sane then creepy & not totally sane! Recommended listen!
This book is very well written & covers such a wide range of family issues. It's about hoarding, about loss, tragedy, and coming of age. It's haunting, poignant, and powerfully written. There's much more to this book than the average "chick lit". I wasn't thrilled with the narrator at first but the more I listened to the story, the more appropriate she became for the story.
I really liked this story & it's written well, but I could only listen to the narrator for short spurts as the 4-year old voice got pretty annoying after a short period of time. I think I might have enjoyed reading this one more than listening. But, if you listen to a sample of the narration & that doesn't bother you, I'd recommend it. The story is very good.
I'm a fan of Lauren Oliver - loved her Delirum series & Before I fall, so I expected to like this one. I wasn't disappointed! How believable? How many things did we do as teenagers that as adults we can't believe we did? Sarah Drew is the perfect narrator for Lauren Oliver's books.
I loved The Good House & this wasn't as good as her previous book, but it was a fairly good story. No one knows what really goes on inside a marriage.
This was such a good book! The narrator was excellent too. Very compelling story.
I was a fan of the early John Grisham books, but they've gradually gotten worse over the years to the point that I had no desire to read any of them the last 5 years. Until this one - it's absolutely his best book in 20 years. I couldn't stop listening, then I listened to the end of the book again because it was such a good ending. I highly recommend this one!
I've had this book for quite a while & started it a few times, but couldn't get interested in the beginning. Once I got past the first couple of chapters, I was hooked. I really like southern literature & the narrator is perfect. It's like having a conversation with a friend - very enjoyable!
Once I started listening, I couldn't stop - totally pulled me into the story. I can see this book being made into a movie! The narrator spoke a little too fast at times, but otherwise was fine. Totally enjoyed listening to this one!
I'm a long-time Dean Koontz fan, but this book wasn't in my top 10, not even in my top 25. It was just OK. I didn't like the ending at all.
