For more than 30 years, Edie and Richard Middlestein shared a solid family life together in the suburbs of Chicago. But now things are splintering apart, for one reason, it seems: Edie's enormous girth. She's obsessed with food - thinking about it, eating it - and if she doesn't stop, she won't have much longer to live. When Richard abandons his wife, it is up to the next generation to take control. With pitch-perfect prose, huge compassion, and sly humor, Jami Attenberg has given us an epic story of marriage, family, and obsession.

I expected a lot more from this book since it got a lot of attention when it was released, but it was an enjoyable listen. Molly Ringwald does an OK job with the narration. Overall, it was a solid 3.5 stars for me.

The narrator was perfect for the story. Pleasant story to listen to, good chick lit. Not wholly realistic, as most chick lit, but very realistic in how the girls interact with each other. I'm a fan of chick lit so I enjoyed it for what it was, just a pleasant story. Some conflict, some growing up, some getting to know yourself. Alittle predictable but still a pleasant story. If you like chick lit, you'll probably enjoy it!

I really like this narrator - she's one of my favorites. That said, I sometimes got confused as to which character was speaking since each chapter is told from a different point of view - Kelly (first wife), Grace (fiancé), and Ava (daughter). On the other hand, I liked hearing from each character's point of view. This book is similar to a Jodi Picoult book & I really enjoyed it, very compelling. I didn't want to stop listening. I felt like I could relate to each character - very well written.

When Kate, single mother and law firm partner, gets an urgent phone call summoning her to her daughter's exclusive private school, she's shocked. Amelia has been suspended for cheating, something that would be completely out of character for her over-achieving, well-behaved daughter. Kate rushes to Grace Hall, but what she finds when she finally arrives is beyond comprehension. Her daughter is dead.

When Dr. Mike Scanlon is called to serve as an army doctor in Afghanistan, he’s acutely aware of the dangers he’ll face and the hardships it will bring his wife, Chloe, and their newborn baby. And deep inside, he doesn’t think of himself as a hero, but a healer. However, in an ironic turn of events, as Mike operates on a wounded soldier in a war-torn country, Chloe dies at home in the suburbs, in an apparently freak household accident. Devastated, he returns home to bury her, only to discover that the life he left behind has fallen apart.

This wasn't really what I expected, but it was a nice story. Not great, not bad. I didn't like the accents that the narrator gave the sisters - none of the French people I know speak anything like that, but otherwise, the narrator was fine. The ending was a bit rushed and a bit too "happy ever after", but it didn't ruin the overall story for me.

This book was different than what I expected by reading the summary, but it was amazing. It is basically three stories woven together - the story of the baker & the old man, the story of the grandmother's life, and the vampire story written by the grandmother. The way Jodi Picoult tells these stories is amazing and the ending was very unexpected for me. I didn't see the final twist coming. I always look forward to Jodi Picoult's new books, but this one surpassed all my expectations. The history contained within the telling of the grandmother's life will bring tears to your eyes.

R is a young man with an existential crisis—he is a zombie. He has no memories, no identity, and no pulse, but he has dreams. His ability to connect with the outside world is limited to a few grunted syllables, but his inner life is deep, full of wonder and longing. After experiencing a teenage boy’s memories while consuming his brain, R makes an unexpected choice that begins a tense, awkward, and strangely sweet relationship with the victim’s human girlfriend, Julie.

I'm a big fan of Harlen Coben & this one kept my attention with lots of twists and turns. I guess some people didn't like the "love story" aspect but it didn't bother me. I'm a romantic & want someone willing to do anything for me! LOL I spent more time working in the yard, just so I could keep listenting. It was worth the credit for me with a strong story line & narration. I don't think I would have enjoyed reading the book as much as listening - I really like Scott Brick as narrator.

This exciting finale to Lauren Olive's New York Times best-selling Delirium trilogy is a riveting blend of nonstop action and forbidden romance in a dystopian United States. Now an active member of the resistance, Lena has transformed. The nascent rebellion that was underway in Pandemonium has ignited into an all-out revolution in Requiem, and Lena is at the center of the fight. After rescuing Julian from a death sentence, Lena and her friends fled to the Wilds. But the Wilds are no longer a safe haven.

I really enjoyed all three books in this series. To follow Hannah & Lena as they matured and all the changes they go through, dealing with their friendship, life changes, love, and rage. I'm looking forward to seeing how the story is adapted to a TV series next year (it was first picked up for a movie, then changed to a network series). I especially enjoyed hearing from the narrator at the end of the last book. There was a lot of depth to the series, not just a simple love story, but a deeper story of fighting for what you believe in and the sacrifices you make, not just from those in the wild.

The Good House tells the story of Hildy Good, who lives in a small town on Boston's North Shore. Hildy is a successful real-estate broker, good neighbor, mother, and grandmother. She's also a raging alcoholic. Hildy's family held an intervention for her about a year before this story takes place - "if they invite you over for dinner, and it’s not a major holiday," she advises "run for your life" - and now she feels lonely and unjustly persecuted. She has also fooled herself into thinking that moderation is the key.

This is a more difficult review for me to put into words. It kept me guessing until the end, but I kept waiting for more twists, or something more to happen. I've had this book on my MP3 for months & I've started it several times, but it was slow enough in the beginning that I'd get bored and switch to another book. I finally got to a point where it was keeping my interest, but I expected more - it could have been a better story. As it is, it was better than "just ok", but still below average in my opinion..
