Picking up a small, pink shoe from the grass forever changed young Jackson Lee’s life. Not only did its presence mean that his sister Tessa was dead - murdered and stuffed in the deep, black water of a narrow well - but the shoe itself told him so. Tessa’s death triggers an even more horrific family massacre that, combined with this new talent he neither wants nor can handle, throws Jack’s life into a tailspin. The years quickly take him from state homes to the streets to grifting in a seedy carnival, until he finally becomes the cynical All Seeing Eye, psychic-for-hire. At last, Jackson has left his troubled past behind and found a semblance of peace....

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes. It was unique. The premise is new and not too complex. It had a good twist at the end. The narrator was very good. Sarcastic humor is something I like in all my books.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

When trying to free Charlie, it was brushed over in a few sentences and I don't know exactly what was said or what happened. I don't want to try to rewind because I would have to listen to too much other stuff. In that scene too much detail was put on weapons, injuries, Tess instead of what actually happened to Charlie.

Have you listened to any of Jeff Hoyt’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No. I will check out other books. He did an excellent job.

Where does Breakfast with Buddha rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It is very different from most my other books. I bought it with Daily Deal.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Breakfast with Buddha?

It wasn't a moment, it was a slow evolution. I don't want to spoil it. There were some lulls that lasted to long, but overall it was really good.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The last third of the book was my favorite and especially the end.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. The key to making it four stars for me is will I listen to it again. I will listen to this one probably one more time. I will also recommend it to a friend.

    Any additional comments?

I really liked how this book was not preachy. It could have been any of us angry skeptics in that car.

On an ordinary day, at an air show like that in any small town across the country, a plane crashes into a crowd of spectators, killing and injuring dozens. But when the dust clears, a thirteen-year-old girl named Ava is found huddled beneath a pocket of rubble with her best friend, Wash. He is injured and bleeding, and when Ava places her hands over him, his wounds miraculously disappear. Ava has a unique gift: she can heal others of their physical ailments.

What disappointed you about The Wonder of All Things?

No good or loving father would allow his daughter's health to be put in danger over and over. The ending was just as bad, it alludes but.......
There were good characters with good relationships with other characters. The best relationship is Ava and Wash.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I have not found any lately that I would rave about so maybe another genre. I like historical history with some paranormal and romance mixed in, hard to find.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The performance was good. She did all the characters well and with the right inflection etcetera. The only thing that made me crazy was every time she tried to pronounce Macon, it sounded like Megan and it was a man.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Wonder of All Things?

I would have made the ending more clear one way or the other. Cryptic unsettled endings are infuriating.

    Any additional comments?

The obvious steps a parent would take is to change their names and move to another town.

Neal Carey is not your usual private eye. A graduate student at Columbia University, he grew up on the streets of New York, usually on the wrong side of the law. Then he met a P.I. who introduced him to the Bank, an exclusive institution with a sideline in keeping its wealthy clients happy and out of trouble. They pay Neal's college tuition, and Neal gets an education that can't be found in any textbook, from learning how to trail a suspect to mastering the proper way to search a room. Now it's payback time.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

It is different. I finished it. The ending was okay. I would recommend it if it was on sale for sure.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It was a realistic ending, not happy or sad.

What aspect of Joe Barrett’s performance would you have changed?

    He did a good job.

Could you see A Cool Breeze on the Underground being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Maybe a series. I did fast forward a few times when it was very predictable.

    Any additional comments?

Most of the book was about when he was young. It is about his training to be a private eye starting when he was in grade school. The middle was cat and mouse. The end is tidied up in the last bit of the book.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Probably. Not sure. It was unusual. The book was a mystery with little information but, you keep listening. The characters and dialog work somehow. This was my most confused review.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

I didn't like it. But I plan on buying the next book, so go figure.

What about Gabriel Vaughan and Piper Goodeve ’s performance did you like?

I liked hers better but he was good too. They are convincing.

Do you think Secrets needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Well the book ends on a cliffhanger. If I knew that I might not have bought it. I like a satisfying or real end, even if it is a series.

    Any additional comments?

This one was hard to rate. I liked it but didn't love it. I will buy the next book to get to the ending......

Where does Rapture in Death rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I am new to find J.D. Robb, Nora Roberts. You can find them a reliable source of entertainment, most the time. This series so far has been great. I couldn't wait to start and when I finished, I couldn't wait to start the next book. It is a murder mystery with romance incorporated in. The side characters are likable too.

What other book might you compare Rapture in Death to and why?

It reminds me of Catherine Coulter's split second.

    Which scene was your favorite?

When Dallas and Rorke are up to no good.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    The title covers it.

    Any additional comments?

I would recommend it, you can't go wrong.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes! It was fun, great characters, supernatural, mystery and romance. After listening to several books that were not satisfying for one reason or another, this was refreshing.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Trouble in Mudbug?

When Luke sees the mother in law too. I am just throwing it out there because a good story that flows it is hard to have a moment. When a story is terrible there are moments. ( I hate this question, sometime I change stars to avoid this question!!)

    Which scene was your favorite?

This is almost the same question as above, who thinks of these? ( I hate this question, sometime I change stars to avoid this question!!)

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, and did. I think when I listen to several bad books I will listen to this one again.

    Any additional comments?

The story had a good pace, the narrator was excellent, the characters were well developed and the ones you wanted to know more about you will. At the end of the book they give you a chapter of the next, brilliant!!!! I think you will not be disapointed.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Too much to.... The whole book was how everyone was sleeping with everyone but there were boundaries by class. That sums up the story and the intensity. It was a farce. It made me think if this gets published maybe I should write. This is my 30th book and I have never been so harsh.

If you’ve listened to books by Eloisa James before, how does this one compare?

I listened to another, it was better.

What three words best describe Rosalyn Landor’s performance?

Okay, not great. It was hard to distinguish the voices, characters. It really detracted from the story.

Did Desperate Duchesses inspire you to do anything?

No. It was hard to get through the entire book. The very last bit, less than a chapter was good when she was with her love. I would not recommend it.

What made the experience of listening to Private the most enjoyable?

It had a few story lines at once. There were a few mysteries running at once between friends, families and lovers.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, you had to really listen and follow. The pace was quick. You really had to keep track of the characters, there were quit a few that were important to the story.

Which character – as performed by Peter Hermann – was your favorite?

He did Jack the best. He was very good I would seek him out.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The story had many side plots going on and they were interesting and well done, Jack's love life was disappointing from a to z. He was noble everywhere but his relationship with women. I would think most women can deal with failed work, friend relationships but at the end a hopeful romance is in order.

If you have seen Ray Donavan, that is almost the same as this.

Would you listen to Deadly Night again? Why?

Yes, the pace was pretty fast. There were nuances that were missed the first time so I would listen again. I liked the characters they were interesting and you want to know more. The story was well developed and characters. It was a good flow and the whole was well done.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The two main characters. The side characters were interesting and could be developed more if there were another book.

What does Phil Gigante bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He did very well. I have found that women do men and women voices very well and few men can do both, he did well.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes and did.

    Any additional comments?

This story was very well done. There were so many threads, history, ghosts, friends, serial killer, and a love story. Yes, I enjoyed this.
