This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Readers of this genre like erotic and romantic sex scenes, however there are too many sex scenes not enough story or battles and they are CRUDE.

Would you ever listen to anything by Laura Wright again?

Yes, if she will start listening to her readers, add more story, take out the C words and P word in the sex scenes. She should read Jeanine Frost, Diane Duvall and Deborah Harkness.

Which character – as performed by Tavia Gilbert – was your favorite?

    Dee

    Any additional comments?

When the truce is agreed to, no one mentions a prerequisite would be to stop castrations. That was the whole premise of the story and it was left out?

Detective Tess McCrae investigates a grisly crime scene in the ghost town of Credo, Arizona. The evidence suggests a cartel drug hit. But Tess, with a nearly faultless photographic memory, sees what others might miss: This is no drug killing. Someone went to gruesome lengths to cover their tracks. The killer’s trail leads from Tucson to California - from anti-government squatters to the heights of wealthy society. As Tess follows the trail of gore and betrayal, perfect and indelible in her memory, she uncovers far more than one man’s murder and solves much more than one isolated crime.

Where does The Survivors Club rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It was very good among the murder mysteries genre. Most are predictable reasons for murder and the suspects obvious, not so here.

What other book might you compare The Survivors Club to and why?

    I can't think of another.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Her different voices are not different enough.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. A 5 star book is one I want to listen to again. Later on I might listen to this again.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

There were a few little things, but it was entertaining.

Would you be willing to try another book from Neil Gaiman? Why or why not?

    Yes, I would consider it.

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?

    James McAvoy

Could you see Neverwhere [Adaptation] being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Yes, it would be good for either. James McAvoy for sure. I think it would appeal to teens on up.

What disappointed you about The Mermaids Singing?

The subject matter. I must not have been paying attention to the snippet or premise. Very graphic sadism has no interest to me.

Would you ever listen to anything by Val McDermid again?

    I doubt it.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

He did the voices well and was convincingly creepy.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Mermaids Singing?

    Too many.

But as the holder of one of England’s most august noble titles, he must now take on the gravest duty of all: marriage. Yet the young ladies the grande dames would have him consider are predictably boring. Far more tempting is his castle’s willful and determinedly aloof chatelaine, Minerva Chesterton. Beneath her serene façade lies a woman of smoldering sensuality, one who will fill his days with comfort....

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No, I hate to say it was boring but..... There was almost no action. The love story was not very good. To me it is essential to be vested and interested in the characters, I was not.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I'm having a hard time finding anything tempting.

How could the performance have been better?

He was okay but, lacked voice differentiation. He lacked sincere emotion.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    No

    Any additional comments?

Most reviews about this book were positive so maybe it is me. The only action was at the very end of the book.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I think there are people that might enjoy it. The premise was interesting, follow through was frustrating and lacking. Character development would have helped. That was missing, no connection with any of the characters. The mystery is summed up in the last few minutes and still you are confused or at least I was. I think with good editors or a collaboration, the story could be really good. Nora Roberts did one similar.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I am hoping for a great recommendation from Audible or other listeners.

What three words best describe Xe Sands’s voice?

Saltery, whisper, .....She is an acquired taste, at first I wasn't sure I liked her. Sometimes at first I had a hard time hearing or understanding some of her words.I chose this book because of her. Now I look for books she has narrated.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

It did. I finished it. There are many books I don't. Xe Sands might be part of why I finished it. I also kept listening to see if relationships developed or to make sense of the mystery. I finished it hoping to be convinced, I wasn't.

    Any additional comments?

Right now I wouldn't recommend it but , after awhile I might try listening again. It was not worth my credit, but on sale.....

This time, general contractor Mel Turner has to work around the owners, who insist on sticking around-along with some ghosts that insist in their own way that the work stops. The ghosts aren't the only ones standing in the way of the renovations. A crotchety neighbor, Emile Blunt, secretly wants this house and could be behind some of the disturbances. But when Emile is found dead, it's Mel who appears guilty.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would like midway through the book for Mel to partner with Graham. Tease more and get together before the last three sentences of the book. When the summation happens in the end, it would be good to repeat to a couple people, the dad or Russian girl what bodies were there and why. Telling once right at the end when several intense things are happening with several people leaves you trying to say who what where. Some books that develop each character more and their connection with others helps in the summation.

Would you be willing to try another book from Juliet Blackwell? Why or why not?

Yes. This is the second of her books I have listened to. You can count on a light mystery. Easy listening.

What about Xe Sands’s performance did you like?

She does very well with all the characters. I have looked for other books she has narrated.

Do you think Dead Bolt needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Yes, it could have a follow up, only if it is not going to tease the relationship the whole book.

    Any additional comments?

There is so much potential for a more developed book. Why not develope more lines with different characters. More interaction with the dad and his friend, more with the stepson he could bond with Graham. Some sarcastic funny humor between the characters and crazy self talk would step this up from a fluffy light to a developed book that I would listen to more than once.

Would you try another book from Robert Weinberg and/or Nick Santa Maria?

I probably would not try another Robert Weinberg.

Would you ever listen to anything by Robert Weinberg again?

    No

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

    The narration was good.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

It was predictable. I fast forward a few times. In the last five minutes the story was summed up, corny.

    Any additional comments?

In the first chapter I was thinking get on with it. I may wait awhile and try it again, if the narration isn't annoying I like to give the author a second chance.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes, I would recommend it, the fast pace interesting characters, future potential, plot flow and most of all SARCASTIC Wit!!

Would you recommend Dead Eye: Pennies for the Ferryman to your friends? Why or why not?

The main character had sardonic wit, optimism, likable personality and you root for him even though he keeps getting beat up. There was plenty of action, several plot lines going at once and good characters to support the various stories.

    Which scene was your favorite?

There were little scenes with friends, girls, and ghosts.

Was Dead Eye: Pennies for the Ferryman worth the listening time?

Yes, the narrator was essential to the story. Only a few could have equaled his performance. He was excellent!

    Any additional comments?

This book was one of the best of the last five I have bought. It is still Harry Dresden, light. When I say that I mean it is excellent but, Dresden books are so detailed and complex yet easy to follow. Dresden creates and describes all facets of his world, you can visualize all of it.
I can not wait for the next book in this series.

What did you like best about Fatal Affair? What did you like least?

The characters were good. The murder mystery had good twists and turns. There was plenty of story and it wasn't overtaken by romance.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Fatal Affair?

The bomb and who did it.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Felicity Munroe?

I wouldn't seek her out but I wouldn't avoid a book because she narrated. She did well differentiating the voices.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Yes. It had twists and turns.

A series of seemingly motiveless murders of supernatural creatures points to a vigilante targeting the supe community of Scranton. Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No. I did get through it but it wasn't easy. The narrator ruined it. It sounded like a Saturday cartoon. He didn't differentiate voices very well and did not do women well. I was hoping for a Dresden type book.

What do you think your next listen will be?

I am thinking of steering away from paranormal towards basic mystery.

How could the performance have been better?

He just was not suited for the story.

    Any additional comments?

Honestly there might have been potential in the story, it couldn't hold my attention so I don't know.
