This was one of the best books I've listened to ever. So my apologies for my "juvenile" review of the first book. I'll try it again.
I have to force myself to turn off these books to get some sleep. Love the Irish accent. Dreamy, yet so forceful!
I tried to like this book, but I had to abandon it and go on to better listening.
I haven't attempted reading any of Orwell's works since high school. I'm now 60 and took the plunge. This book is amazing and the narration is truly awesome. I couldn't turn the book off and finished it in one sitting, and went straight on to "1984."
Average story made better than average by John Lee's narration. Wonderful vocal intonation and accent delivery! Only problem I have is his pronunciation of "Chelmno." He uses the c-h sound when it's actually pronounced with a hard C. But that could just be a British thing!
I don't know, maybe I wasn't in the mood, but this title seemed very juvenile to me. I don't know if it was the author's fault or the narrator's or mine! I turned it off after one hour and said "Ugg, I've wasted another credit."
Not only is Simon one of my top favorite readers, but my cat loves his voice, too. She comes running to my chair (or pillow) whenever I turn on my Kindle and she hears Simon. One evening I put on ear buds, but Shamu could still hear him! She sniffed the ear bud and then laid her head down on my ear so she could listen too.
Shamu's review is more telling than my own could ever be.
