"I have found a new favorite detective!"
If you like Miss Marple, Hercule Poirot and more classic detective fiction, you will probably enjoy this work quite a lot. I find some of the "modern" detective stories too dark and depressing with detectives it is hard to like and a view of human nature that I find far from reality. This book is filled with characters you would like to get to know and people who you can see in your friends and neighbors. Even the villians and criminals are recognizable.
The book is filled with insightful and humourous comments about the human nature, and a simple wisdom that I loved. I will definitely be reading and listening to more from this author.
"Great book"
This is a great book, but quite short. Both my son and I have loved the entire series.
"Full of insight"
Wonderful! If you are familiar with science and the uncertainties of real life research (and practice) as opposed to the text book models of "scientific process", this book won't come as a shock. It is a brilliant exploration of the uncertainties in the science of medicine and the impact that human beings, with their frailties and their brilliant insights, have on a medicine. While I must admit it leaves me somewhat more nervous about major medical procedures, if more people understood medicine as presented here, we would probably not be plagued with so many law suits, the resultant high malpractice insurance fees and the final result of high cost health care. At the same time, if some of the insights presented in this book were translated into new systems and practices in the medical field, we probably would also not have so much human error to begin with. A great listen I recommend highly.
"An entertaining listen"
A wonderful continuation of an unusual detective's career. While not quite as good as No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency, it is still well worth a listen. Precious continues to display wisdom and insight and you can't finish without wanting to take a trip to Africa. I look forward to more from this author.
