This was an amazing audiobook. It is such a great book - a re-creation of the people and a battle during the Civil War told in a really fascinating way that you are completely taken in. It is well read (which to me means clear and easy to understand). This is definitely one of my favorite audiobooks.
My one criticism would be - since I was unfamiliar with who all the soldiers were during the Civil War, I had to concentrate to keep some of them straight.
If you are at all interesting in the history of America or just military history, you will really like this one.
I still haven't gotten through this and, it's not because I don't like the story - I just have a really hard time understanding the narrator. Unlike others, I don't care if his emotion isn't great or his age is wrong - I just want to be able to understand him. I wanted to enter my comments too because I'm hoping the audiobook company will take that more into account. Even though someone said JLB really liked this reading, I don't think that's a fair call because he knows the story!
I don't even remember why I picked this book - I hadn't heard anything about it beforehand. It took me a long time to even start listening to it but once I started I couldn't believe how great it was. Now I'm very surprised I hadn't hear of it before.
I have been recommending it to a lot of friends - both print and audio readers. I like detective/crime stories and so have read a lot of them. But these (it's a collection of stories about the same characters - not a novel) were a very fresh take on the genre. The different "hits" were all interesting but the views into his everyday life are also great because they're very funny. Also - very important - good reader: clear and enjoyable.
