If you like this genre, you cannot pass up the hunger games. It has everything, overcoming poverty, action, love triangle and lovable drunk.
I believe this works so well because we can all relate to most aspects of this and the other 2 books.

All of Robert's books are fantastic! I love how he uses science with a twist to enforce his tales.
I expected Calculating God to be one sided. I came in with one expectation, and left unsure of how I think. I believe that meeting a being from another world would radically shake up our thoughts of God, but I did not expect the twist RJS puts on this.
Well done!

This book could have been a story told in any bar anywhere. The characters are not especially gifted. They are just your neighbors dealing with zombies.

I liked this book for that. I have never seen another zombie book handled like this.

I have already confessed that I love books that interweave real history with the implausible story.
Almost all ground is covered by this story. The author did well interweaving the facts of Lincoln with the Vampire Myth. It actually made better sense of the civil war, than the real reasons.
The movie let me down as expected, but this book was charming.

This author is clever to find a way to grant characters extreme powers, without having to explain the science. I liked the cleverness of the characters, and there was some conflict of power controls, but I felt is was whitewashed over.

It almost feels like it was written to explain things needed in the next series of books. I liked the explaining part, but the first attack adventure was hard to follow, and turned me off completely on picking out other books in this series.

I need more human interaction and less bang bang action.

The entire time I read this book I was picturing myself and my daughter facing the world. Sometimes when you loose everything and run away, you are following fates plan to bring you TO a place you need to be.
This book was predictable, yes, but in a warm way. The story was written well, and the characters are real feeling. But that could be me, because as I said it has an air of similarity to my own life with my daughter.

Sometimes you need a palette cleanser of a book, before going on to another that enchants you. This is a good palette cleanser.
The story is as old as time. A poor character, with a great attitude conquers life's struggles and finds in the end that simple life and family are most important.

I liked this book. I like zombie stories because they usually dig deep into the mind of characters and show me things I want to know.
That being said, the main character in this book has lots of missing pieces I would like to know. How did she get to where she lives... what is her connection with the distant friends. Why would they discuss zombie survival. Where is her feelings on lost love ones before the book starts. What was her life like before the zombies.
It's like you came in 15 minutes after the movie started. From that point on, it worked much better. I liked the interactions of all characters and the story plot.

I mentally pictured George Cloonie during this entire book. That raised the enjoyment level quite high.
The story was limited, but the book was enjoyable and simple. Characters were predictable but charming. If you need a pleasant read....Hawaii setting did not hurt.
