"Compelling Characters, Memorable Villains!"
There is nothing which produces fully developed characters quite like a Victorian novel. Drama, mystery, suspense. The characters within its pages are everything you could hope for.....those to cheer for, those to despise, those to pity. One which makes your eyes roll as soon as he is introduced in the paragraph. And, then, there is Fosco!! The narration for this character is superb!! I truly enjoyed this audio. It's a treasure!!!!
"Great Story and Narration!!"
One of those listens that is hard to put down. The characters were believable. The story was interesting. And the narrators were spot on. The descriptions of the glassblowing were of such that you could almost convince yourself you actually saw it!!
The only thing I didn't like about the audio was the instrumental between chapters. The instrumental wasn't bad but the volume was, irritatingly, louder than the narration.
"COM--which I do not--PLETE--recom--NONSENSE---mend"
Warning this book contains liberal propaganda.
I suppose in that light, it's actually quite amusing the book is written in stories that cut off (some of them mid-sentence) without any transition or connection and a new story begins (in the middle). Complete confusion which all pieces together into nothing (but don't worry, they will tell you, at the very end, what they want it to mean).
"Loved it, loved it, loved it!!!!!"
You don't have to be a gaming geek to enjoy this one. When listening to audiobooks there are always those moments of distraction where you miss things here and there--moments that I don't usually rewind to capture. Not this book. I wanted to hear every word. There were times that I re-listened to certain passages numerous times just for the sheer enjoyment of hearing them again. I've never re-listened to an audiobook before. I immediately started this one over at soon as it ended.
"This one definitely makes my list of favorites!!"
In one word: Wow!! What an amazingly well-written story. An excellent narration by Anne Miyamoto.
Heartbreaking separation, tragic loss and a chronic disfiguring illness all beautifully, and touchingly, interlaced with warmth, tenderness, love, compassion, forgiveness and most importantly, happiness!!! Happiness is a choice you make. Happiness is something you can have inspite of the circumstance of life.
This book definitely makes my list of favorites.
"Don't Think About it Tomorrow---Get it Today!!"
I had seen the movie dozens of times but never read the book. Why read the book when I already knew the story? Why? Because.....THE BOOK IS SO MUCH BETTER!!
"Don't Waste Your Credit"
Based on this novel Joan of Arc was nothing more than a self-centered whining child who was overly obsessed with the thought of all the men who wanted to take her virginity; her "voices" included Michael the Archangel who also had some sexual interest in her because he grabbed her crotch. If she was a prophet she's the first one I have ever heard of who threw a childish temper tantrum after the King wouldn't obey the commands her voices had given. If this is an accurate representation of the life of Joan of Arc I can't imagine why she is considered a saint.
"A Very Satisfying Read!!! Enjoyed Every Moment!!"
Excellent Historical Fiction!!! It's one of those books in which you feel like you have been there....so well written (and read) it is......hmmm......as if you have personally witness each scene as it unfolds.
"A Grand Story of Friendships--You Must Read It!"
Engaging. Touching. Unforgettable.
This book accomplishes the right balance between humor and conflict showing each characters at their best and their worst. A book whose characters will stay with you long after you read the last page.
"Get Ready to Find Extra Time to Keep Listening!!"
I haven't read the print version--the audio version is excellent!
Jamie Frazier, of course!!!! Read it, or listen to it, and you will know why!!!
I love her accent.
