What a disappointment. I started listening to it anticipating a fun audio experience but soon found myself shutting it off. What could have been a good book was laced with F@#! and other language that I found distracting and distasteful. Why an author and a comedian believe rogue language is necessary in order to entertain is beyond me. For that reason alone, I do not recommend this book.
I've not listened to Mennonite stories before, but this first book left me wanting to hear more. I will keep checking back to see if the next book appears.
All the characters are wonderfully alive in this #2 Virgin River series. Robyn's sense of a fair-minded woman reminds me of the type of woman I should be and how I should respond when tough situations find their way into my life. The characters' comical dialogues and inward thoughts that make me laugh out loud. While there are a few predictable outcomes woven into the story line,it doesn't detract from the fun of the novel.
To the author: Robyn, I can get around the mild profanity you insert in your stories, which really isn't necessary, but I wish you would cool it on taking the Lord's name in vain. That is not cool and doesn't add value to the story. Would you please consider that?
Love that this series touches on the lives of June Hudson, Jim Post, John and Sara Stone from the Grace Valley Trilogy - very cool. This is a good story and Therese Plummer does a nice job on narration. Robyn Carr's style is not prolific but her novels are fun to listen to when I need a fictional romantic get-away from my corporate life. Love this type of easy listening while I commute the horrendous Atlanta traffic every day. It's a great escape!
I was in the mood for easy romance without a lot of disaster or tricky twists - this series was exactly what I was looking for - a nice easy listen. Robyn Carr did a great job making her characters come alive and I enjoyed being immersed in the lives of the Thunder Point characters. I hope Robyn will add to this series as I don't believe the story ends just yet. Three cheers to Therese Plummer who did an excellent job with her narration and especially with her male voices. I vote that Therese continue to be the narrator on future Thunder Point books if the series continues. Robyn - please write more?
