  • Nothing but Trouble

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 15 mins)
    • By Rachel Gibson
    • Narrated By Susan Bennett

Rachel Gibson’s “eloquent prose” (Publishers Weekly) has earned the author a number of coveted awards, including the RITA, Golden Heart, and National Reader’s Choice. Nothing But Trouble features an injured, prickly Seattle Chinooks hockey player who is none too pleased to be bedridden.

    "Good Read"
    Any additional comments?

Enjoyed this story and would listen again. The characters were adequately developed, story was predictable but satisfying, and the interaction between Mark and Chelsea was entertaining and realistic. The narrator was probably the best one I have listened to yet. Would definitely listen to this book again and probably will.

  • Tangled: The Tangled Series, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs)
    • By Emma Chase
    • Narrated By Sebastian York
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Drew Evans is handsome and arrogant, he makes multimillion dollar business deals and seduces New York’s most beautiful women with just a smile. So why has he been shuttered in his apartment for seven days, miserable and depressed? He’ll tell you he has the flu. But we all know that’s not really true. Katherine Brooks is brilliant, beautiful and ambitious. When Kate is hired as the new associate at Drew’s father’s investment banking firm, every aspect of the dashing playboy’s life is thrown into a tailspin.

    "Loved It"
    Any additional comments?

This is one of my favorite books. I could listen to it over and over again and still enjoy every single minute of it. Even though Drew is about as "guy" as a guy can get, and he is vulgar and was refreshing to hear a story told by the male point of view. I just loved this story of how a guy's guy can move from being shallow and insensitive to being protective and passionate. And the narrator Sebastian York...WOW, he nailed it! I usually get the kindle versions of my books so I can switch back and forth but this is the first book I've read that I wouldn't touch the printed word with a 10 foot pole. I am pretty good at reading context, but there's just no way it could get any better than Sebastian's performance. Well done Emma and Sebastian. I am definitely looking forward to the rest of the series.

  • Safe Haven

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 4 mins)
    • By Nicholas Sparks
    • Narrated By Rebecca Lowman
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When Katie appears in the small North Carolina town of Southport, her sudden arrival raises questions about her past. Beautiful yet self-effacing, Katie seems determined to avoid forming personal ties until a series of events draws her into two reluctant relationships: one with Alex, a widowed store owner with a kind heart and two young children; and another with her plainspoken single neighbor, Jo. Despite her reservations, Katie begins to let down her guard, putting down roots in the close-knit community..

Ruth Adamson says: "Not Nicholas Sparks best, but ok"
    "Great Story"
Where does Safe Haven rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I just recently started listening to audio books to help fill my long communte to and from work every day. I have listened to a few so far, mostly the Shannon Stacey Kowalski series, and I have liked all of them so far. There were a few times during this book when I wanted to tell the story to just get on with it. This was mostly during the chapters about Kevin. While I understand a bit of it was necessary in order to portray a true sense of Kevin's inner demons, I feel it may have been a little overdone. I also think the story could have used a few more intimate moments between Katie and Alex. Other than that, I enjoyed the story and really can't complain about the experience of listening to it. I have read a few of Nicholas Sparks' other books (read, not listened) and of course enjoyed (and would highly recommend) those as well. (The Notebook, A Bend in the Road, Nights in Rodanthe, The Wedding)
Overall, Safe Haven is a very interesting and satisfying read and I look forward to seeing the movie adaptation that just came out.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Safe Haven?

Hmm, I'm not going to say because it would be a spoiler for those who haven't read it. Let's just say there is a twist.

Have you listened to any of Rebecca Lowman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was the first book I listened to with this narrator. I had no trouble listening to her tell the story and I felt she did the different voices very well. I never had to question which of the characters was speaking. I would have no hesitation in listening to another book with this narrator.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did find myself sitting a few extra minutes in my car because the story had me hooked at certain parts.
