Turner Construction's latest restoration project is a historic Queen Anne Victorian in San Francisco. This time, general contractor Mel Turner has to work around the owners, who insist on sticking around-along with some ghosts that insist in their own way that the work stops. The ghosts aren't the only ones standing in the way of the renovations. A crotchety neighbor, Emile Blunt, secretly wants this house and could be behind some of the disturbances. But when Emile is found dead, it's Mel who appears guilty.

Where does Dead Bolt rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Dead Bolt rates jumps right to the top of my favorite books for this year. I love this series.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I don't know about edge of the chair but it was such a fun book, moves fast, interesting characters and lots of ingredients to make it one of the best reads/listens ever.

What about Xe Sands’s performance did you like?

I loved the performance that Xe Sands did, she gives a soft edge to Mel, who without Sands touch of class, would be somewhat brash and a bit of a hard person. Sands gives structure and fullness to all the people in the book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did listen in one sitting, I was transfixed with it. Nothing was going to interrupt my listen.

    Any additional comments?

Excellent series from Juliet Blackwell. Blackwell really puts together a good story that's well balanced with lots of variety and surprises.

This was out of my comfort zone of cozy mysteries but I did enjoy it a lot. I had a lot of laughs with some great one liners and funny dialog, Phineas, is the go to person for solving murders, rogue shape shifters and other creatures of the darkness. Someone has gone to a lot of trouble to set him up to come against some of the strongest demons around. Phineas is ages old and had a lot of experience but even he may not be able to defeat the worst of the worse.
The narrator Todd Menesses, was truly wonderful and knows how to keep the excitement going.

Lots of fast paced action on land and on the high seas. Makes Taming of the Shrew seem, well tame. Shakespeare would blanch at this story and might just be a little envious he didn't think of it first.
I hate Mira, but the overall story and pace is good with excellent scene setting, covers everything from smell, sound and taste to throbbing passions. I'm betting romance lovers will adore this book.
Wayne Farrell narrated it and did it justice. He really enlivened it and made it spring into life. I really prefer the audio over reading the text version. Audio gives it many dimensions that just reading it can render it flat.

Caro Lamont pet therapist has the misfortune to not only have to take care of her neighbors Bengal cats, but deal with a long lost sister that arrives unexpectedly at her door. Caro is at first sorry to tell May that her sister is dead, and but wants to avoid dealing with her at all costs. May is pesty and very needy and and naive and soon wears Caro down to where she feels sorry for her.
No matter what Caro tells herself about not getting involved once it's revealed her neighbor didn't have just a car accident but was murdered, everything conspires to get her deeply involved. The story is fun, has lots of laughs, and moves at a good pace.
The only thing I didn't like was the title and I had a little bit of a problem wrapping my mind around Bengal cats that paint.
Karen Commins does a stellar narration and her accents and personality expressions are right on target. She does the high pitched nasally voiced May so well that you sympathize with Caro about trying to avoid the harpy. Wonderful narration.

Alabama Hargrove has a new, sure-fire, money-making scheme up her sleeve: house flipper. So what if she knows zilch about renovating homes - how hard can it be? Alabama Hargrove has a track record of failed business schemes and buying a old house without even doing a thorough walk through or getting inspections first is her most recent strategy plan. So without any good sense she persuades herself she can flip this money pit house.
This could have been a much better story if Alabama was less annoying. I don't see in the end anything about her having success with this flip. The narrator was as annoying as Alabama Hargrove was. Her narration of males is atrocious, she reads in stilted way that sounds hollow with pauses that are too long and at inappropriate. It was hard to tell if the narrator ruined a fairly good book or the book just isn't that interesting.

After years of hiding in the Thackery family house, Sid the skeleton is delighted to finally have his moment in the spotlight. He's starring in a high school production of Hamlet. Well, not so much starring in as being a prop. At least part of him has a part - he's using his head to play Yorick of "Alas, poor Yorick" fame. Every day, Georgia Thackery's daughter, Madison, who's also in the play, brings in his skull, and every night, she takes him home...

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I found this book well written and very funny.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Skeleton Takes a Bow?

When Sid breaks into the cabin to rescue Madison.

What about Katina Kalin’s performance did you like?

I gave Katina Kalin 5 stars because she does an outstanding narration, has a lovely voice and catches even the most subtle of innuendo's. A very skilled narrator.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    A Skeleton worth knowing

    Any additional comments?

A great story with lots of humor and moves along at a good pace. A real attention keeper and original concept.

Where does Panthers Play for Keeps rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Right at the top of my A+ list.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Panthers Play for Keeps?

When Spot blocks Pru from walking forward when there is danger ahead. Really shows how wonderful these helper dogs are and how they can be totally trusted by someone that has to rely on them completely.

What does Tavia Gilbert bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

OMG Tavia Gilbert is fantastic. I love everything about the way she handles the entire series. Her animal depictions are wonderful and all her other characters really come to life under her narration.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Can't say there is a particular moment. I just enjoy the animal interactions with Pru.

    Any additional comments?

Although I love animal books like Pru Marlowe I think that the narration by Tavia Gilbert is 99% of my enjoyment just by the way she interprets the story.

What made the experience of listening to Dial C For Chihuahua the most enjoyable?

The humor is priceless and is what really adds to the overall enjoyment of the book.

What did you like best about this story?

The crazy things that Pepe gets Geri Sullivan involved in.

What about Laura Darrell’s performance did you like?

Laura Darrell was a good reader. I would like it better if she used more definition between male and female characters. Sometimes it was hard to tell it was a male speaking. She also does a little to much on over emphasizing words so they don't flow well. Not a major problem but it is noticeable.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did listen in almost one sitting.

    Any additional comments?

I decided to try this book because the reviews were very good and I like a cozy mystery and some humor is always icing on the cake.

Would you consider the audio edition of 6 1/2 Body Parts to be better than the print version?

I always prefer an audio version. A narrator can absolutely breathe life into a story and enliven characters in ways just reading doesn't do.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I did not have a special favorite character.

What does Ann M. Richardson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Really brought the story to dimensions my own reading would never imagined.

If you could take any character from 6 1/2 Body Parts out to dinner, who would it be and why?

    Any additional comments?

This was a fun concept, as I do enjoy time travel stories. There were some flaws in it which I hope will be resolved in a follow up book.
