"Don't Hesitate: Download Now !"
This is a fantastic book. Period. The story is wonderfully constructed and beautifully written. The narration is clear and the characters rendered perfectly by narrator John Lee. I could not stop listening to this book. I would sit in my car at lunch or in my driveway at night, listening to "just one more section."
I heartily recommend this book, it's a great one !
"A Great Listen"
This book is constructed in an episodic character-centric manner. The readers are well suited to their characters and I particularly loved Philip Baker Hall...He reminded me of Eli on youtube's eli the accountant channel. Klosterman has some good insights into 80's America...it's too bad that he's about 20 years or so too late, that makes those insights seem a bit facile. Nonetheless, the story is interesting and the narration fun.
"Awash in Details"
Think twice before choosing this audio book. Mr. Higham has done his homework well; it is clear that this book is painstakingly researched down to the smallest detail. No doubt, the murder of Mr. Lincoln was not as simple as a lone gunman happening by Ford?s theater the night Lincoln decided to take in a play. However, a story would have gone a long way towards tying together the myriad details that Mr. Higham has uncovered regarding this case. I found myself overwhelmed by the names, dates, and events that flew off the pages. I would have liked a bit more of a gripping narrative to hold it all together. Scholarship gets an A+, listenability a C- at best.
