I am a Koontz fan but...is this the third Koontz book I've read where one of the antagonist eats a spider during his character development? What's that all about?
Not at all crazy about this book. He's had way better. I think he's trying fill his contract quota because I recognize scenarios pulled out of his other books..
Reader is too melodramatic, he sounds like a motivational speaker overplaying and exaggerating the antagonists.
Haunting? Creepy? I couldn?t stop yawning.. this book almost sapped the life right out of me! Being her first book it reminds me of my friend who is an aspiring novelist herself. My friend makes up metaphors or finds an unusual word in the dictionary and builds a sentence or even a whole paragraph around it just because she likes the way it sounds. And I believe this author did that too because some of the metaphors and adjectives seemed unnecessarily placed.
What a mopy dead person Suzy was and Mom was mopy and kooky and I never did understand why mom did what she did (maybe not enough character development). Everybody was so mopy and melancholic that I was forever rolling my eyes at their unlikely behavior. Even after Suzy?s reunited with Holiday and Granpa their reunions are flat and any joy that is express by the author is left for dead by the reader. I?m sure she?s a good reader ? but not for this book ? to staccato all the words seem to come out tat tat tat tat putting the same tone and attitude in all their voices ? hardly any inflection. The only person she did any justice for was grandma. Which gave grandma a lot of spunk. Maybe it?s the reader that took all the intended feeling out of this book. My readers of choice would have been Matt Dillon, Anna Fields or Keith Szarabajka.
The author should have really ran with psychic Ruth except the author chose to make Ruth continually withhold experiences.
Mr. Harvey?s trinket trophies? The ones in the drain? What happened to those? I thought for sure those would slip back into the story, even help with his capture, but no. Even his long awaited demise was an eye rolling ugh.
The ONLY thing that kept me going was the other reviews. With all the positive reviews I kept thinkin? these folks say its great! They can?t all be wrong, it?s GOT to get better.
For me it never did.
