I bought this audiobook when it was on sale, not knowing what to expect. It was wonderful. Two stories set in the same world with two main characters facing the same social problem. The narrators are perfect too. Highly recommended.
This was a really engaging book. I love the main character. I think it works because being made into a zombie is a problem, but also saves her. There were many times where I laughed out loud listening to the book. Looking forward to listening to the rest of the series.
Sometimes YA fiction is not really meaty enough for an me as an adult. But this book really delivered. It made me think about my own life in a new way. I could not stop listening.
I was delighted with this book. I would have been delighted had it been just a spoof on the sci-fi genre. But it was so much deeper. I loved the multiple views and the "meta" character. And it had a deep message to boot. Will Wheaton was a great narrator too.
I really enjoyed Follett's Pillars of the Earth and World Without End. This series is similar in many ways - themes of love between people who should not be together based on social conventions, tensions between the rich and the poor, and the plight of workers. However, I like this series even better. I have listened to the first two books and am looking forward to the third. I love learning about the historical times (WWI and WWII) in which the books are set. And the seamless way Follett moves between the characters and countries is wonderful. John Lee is a great narrator too. Highly recommend!
I loved the Gunslinger series and the character Roland of Gilead. I was so excited for a new book. And this does not disappoint. In this story Roland tells his katet a story from his past. Stephen King is a wonderful reader. I could not stop listening.
This story is so uninteresting. I could not finish it. And the narrator is pretty terrible. The fake British accent for the main male vampire (ala Buffy) sealed the deal for me. I would not recommend purchasing this book.
I am currently listening to book 3 in this series. It is a good series, dealing with some meaty personal issues from the perspective of the main character. I like the unique magic angle (elemental magic). And the narrator is good. I feel like there are parts which are repetitive. The author reminds the readers too much what has happened before or how the main character thinks/feels, even within the same book. Without the repetitiveness, this would be a five-star book.
I enjoyed this series (still have one book to listen to yet). The narrator is very good. And the stories are interesting. Not great fiction (even fantasy fiction) but still enjoyable. My favorite part of the series is the Greek gods and goddesses angle. I loved reading the myths as a kid, and it is interesting the different personalities the author has chosen to give each one.
Be prepared to pay attention. I had a hard time following all of the characters, and often had to rewind and listen again. The narrator is quite good. You know who is talking without the name (once you know the characters) because his reading is so good.
