Echoes of the ancients' power are distant memories, tattered and faded by the passage of eons, but that is about to change. A new dawn has arrived. Latent abilities, harbored in mankind's deepest fibers, wait to be unleashed. Ancient evils awaken, and old fears ignite the fires of war. In times such as these, ordinary people have the power to save the world...or destroy it.

It could have been good, but there was no character development and one of the worst parts is the constant noise made to break up a section. It was irritating to say the very least. I don't like to quit books, but this one made me want to throw my iPod against a rock so as to never hurt anyone else that may come across it accidentally. Sometimes the noise was made after only a paragraph then it would go to another section that was only a couple of paragraphs long and the noise would blare again. It was mind numbing. The story had potential in the beginning and there were good areas to explore, but it was almost child like writing. It was basically all "I'm angry at you. Oh you said your sorry! OK I'm your friend now" or "This is difficult, OK I'll dig deep and blast you with my powers and be scared and learn nothing for the next time" All the way through the entire book. I would stay away if I were anyone else. The 2 star rating after a hundred reviews should say it all.

From Ancient Rome to the British Empire, Phillips demonstrates that every world-dominating power has been brought down by a related set of causes: a lethal combination of global over-reach, militant religion, resource problems, and ballooning debt. It is this same axis of ills that has come to define America's political and economic identity in the past decade.

This was the most sickening and hard to listen to book I have ever had the displeasure to not vomit through. The author paints Church going America as dumb hicks, unthinking men and women who want slavery reinstated, can't stand the idea of science and technology, and want to rule the world by control of oil through Americas army while converting the everyone that was not killed by the gun. Bush was raised from birth to be an oil baron that can think of nothing other taking oil from the Arabs and destroying anyone in his path to bring about Armageddon. Oh and just to help the planet we we should all quit breathing because we expel carbon dioxide and this is killing the planet. Not everyone just the religious right that is screwing up his elections and isn't willing to convert back to the stone age to stop the bad carbon foot print.
