From the voice of a generation: the most highly anticipated autobiography of the year, and the story of a man who wanted The Who to be called The Hair; wanted to be a sculptor, a journalist, a dancer and a graphic designer; became a musician, composer, librettist, fiction writer, literary editor, sailor; drank too much and nearly died; detached from his body in an airplane, on LSD, and nearly died; planned to write his memoir when he was 21; and published this book at 67.

Having never really been a big Who fan I am not quite sure why I choose this title...certainly am happy I did so.....I almost felt I was on the Magic Bus. My preconcieved notions about the members of the band were flat out totally wrong. Pete Townsend I always knew was talented...even though not a big fan anyone who is a peer of those who madeup the British Invasion would have to be deaf not to heard and appreciated at least some of the Who's music. But Pete Townsend is so much more....he has really packed in a massive amount of accomplishments and interests and career's (yes multiple careers-while a rock star) into his life. A truely remarkable man. The only disappointment I had was he mentioned so many cities that he traveled, toured ,vacationed and visited...but when telling the story of Keith Moon driving the Lincoln into the pool at the Holiday Inn...he omitted saying it was in Flint,Michigan...as that is my hometown I wish he had-but then it is his story and his book.
His performance in reading the book was incredible...again far beyond what I could ever have imagined. He told a fascinating story and held my attention with an incredible performance....he proved to me he could perform on many different stages in many numerous ways. Funny it just occured to me how he shared all of his vast accomplishments and never once was he bragging or boastful...in fact quite the opposite...I admire that as well he certainly could have. A great listen-enjoy.

An iconic figure in the history of rock and pop culture (inducted not once but twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame), Neil Young has written his eagerly awaited memoir. Young offers a kaleidoscopic view of his personal life and musical career, spanning his time in bands like Buffalo Springfield, Crosby, Stills & Nash and Crazy Horse; moving from the snows of Ontario through the LSD-laden boulevards of 1966 Los Angeles to the contemplative paradise of Hawaii today.

We all have preconceived notions about celebrities, entertainers and notable persons and often what we read about them is usually far from the truth. When one writes their own story they also like to gloss over or reinvent the truth. Never felt that with this book...his words rang true and you felt upon completion that you were really getting to know him and his friends and family. The structure of the book was very similar to Mark Twain's "Chapters of my Autobiography". Not unlike the lyrics he has written he told stories and relived events and talked about the monumental as well as the trivial...he discussed living his life and all those who influenced it intimately. It was refreshing and pure and it was also interesting to see what joy he had taking this journey -even when presented with challanges he seemed find a positive that made him keeping moving and exploring. For all his fame and fortune he is certainly a humble, kind and positive person -I admire that.

Mitt Romney has masterfully positioned himself as the front-runner for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination. Even though he's become a household name, the former Massachusetts governor remains an enigma to many in America, his character and core convictions elusive, his record little known. Who is the man behind that high-wattage smile? In this definitive, unflinching biography by Boston Globe investigative reporters Michael Kranish and Scott Helman, listeners will finally discover the real Romney.

I read "The Amateur:Barrack Obama" and "The Real Romney" both books,I feel, gave a fair assesment of both men, their beliefs, their achievements and their lives. It sealed the deal for me-four years ago we drank the Kool-Aid and elected someone who had no idea what to do. Romney is far better equipped to lead us out of this mess we are in while restoring our international reputation. Both books are well written and well performed...I wish everyone could read both books before voting.

From breaking into the industry with the band Montrose to his multiplatinum solo career to his ride as the front man of Van Halen, Sammy's powerful and unforgettable voice has set the tone for some of the greatest rock anthems ever written - songs like "I Can't Drive 55", "Right Now", and "Why Can't This Be Love".

Eric Clapton is far more than a rock star. Like Dylan and McCartney, he is an icon and a living legend. He has sold tens of millions of records, played sell-out concerts all over the world, and been central to the significant musical developments of his era. His guitar playing has seen him hailed as "God". Now, for the first time, Eric tells the story of his personal and professional journeys in this pungent, witty, and painfully honest autobiography.

What I got from this is rather a tragic look at what should have been a more exceptional man. He attained what most only dream of and for all intents and purposes blew the opportunities. He attained so much in such an unexceptional manner. One exception was the way he spoke of Conner's brief life-very sad and written with a paint brush...you felt you were there. I met Eric Clapton in the 60's and I was envious of him then...after hearing his words the envy made me feel very happy to be me.

In John, Cynthia recalls those times with the loving honesty of an insider, offering new and fascinating insights into the life of John Lennon and the early days of the Beatles. And with the perspective only years can provide, she also tells the compelling story of her marriage to a man who was to become a music legend, a cultural hero, and a defining figure of the twentieth century.

Though the book promises to set the record straight, to an avid fan, it does not really live up to that proclaimation. Yet it is well performed and Cynthia has told her own story and done so in a straight forward and intersting way. For any fan of the Beatles and/or Lennon it is a must read. And she does relay some stories and information that have added some insight, humor and sadness into the story. Definetly hear the unabridged version.

I never really gave Steve Jobs more then a moments notice. Reading this book you come to realize he was possibly one of the most important people to have lived in the 20th Century and assuredly of the 21st Century. Having always been a Windows customer until my I phone I must say after reading this book I will never buy a computer or related item that is not an Apple product...it is not necessarily the man I admire it is the perfection, thoughts and his determination for perfection I admire and the fact that he usually attained it.
It did strike me as odd the be soaking in this book through my new I phone.

He is a GREAT story teller and all I can say is I am very grateful that somebody convinced him to share this book with more then just his friends. Not at all a waste of time...he is much more then a pretty face....much more.
