In Light of the World, sadist and serial killer Asa Surrette narrowly escaped the death penalty for the string of heinous murders. But following a series of damning articles written by Dave Robicheaux’s daughter Alafair about possible other crimes committed by Surette, the killer escapes from a prison transport van and heads to Montana - where an unsuspecting Dave happens to have gone to take in the sweet summer air, accompanied by Alafair, his wife Molly, faithful partner Clete, and Clete’s newfound daughter, Gretchen Horowitz.

What disappointed you about Light of the World?

I know I should wait until I am finished listening to the book but I am 3/4 of the way through the second part and ready to just give up. Only with Will Patton narrating was I able to even get this far. This story just rambles on and on and on and most of the things the characters are doing are just simply stupid at best! The story line is absurb. Save your money.

What disappointed you about Those Who Wish Me Dead?

This book contains the most idiotic dialog I think I have ever read in a book! Forget the reviews listed...this book is total garbage! Implausible plot, stupid and pathetic dialog...I simply can't continue to listen and I'm only in the first few chapters.

Would you ever listen to anything by Michael Koryta again?

    Most likely not.

The night after the fourth of July, Layton Carlson, Jr., of Red Wing, Minnesota, finally got lucky. And unlucky.

He’d picked the perfect spot to lose his virginity to his girlfriend, an abandoned farmyard in the middle of cornfields: nice, private, and quiet. The only problem was...something smelled bad - like, really bad. He mentioned it to a county deputy he knew, and when the cop took a look, he found a body stuffed down a cistern. And then another, and another. By the time Lucas Davenport was called in, the police were up to 15 bodies and counting.

If you could sum up Field of Prey in three words, what would they be?

I stopped listening half-way through another one of my favorite authors so I could start listening to "Field of Prey". I am not disappointed. I'm only part way in to the story and I am loving it already! I will pre-order any of John Sandford's books and hopefully Audible will keep Richard Ferrone as the narrator. There is no finer combination.

I should have listened to the one negative review here instead of all the other 4 and 5 star reviews. Were they all listening to the same book? I cannot even try to explain how soporifically this book is written. All I know is I'm half way through and thanks to Audible I will get my money back!

In Israel, a man clutching a backpack searches desperately for a boat. In Minnesota, Virgil Flowers gets a message from Lucas Davenport: You're about to get a visitor. It's an Israeli cop, and she's tailing a man who's smuggled out an extraordinary relic - a copper scroll revealing startling details about the man known as King Solomon. Wait a minute, laughs Virgil. Is this one of those Da Vinci Code deals? The secret scroll, the blockbuster revelation, the teams of murderous bad guys? Should I be boning up on my Bible verses? He looks at the cop. She's not laughing.

I am a huge fan of Sandford and the character but this story is just majorly way too hard to follow. You would need to make a spread sheet of the characters just to even try to keep up with what is going on but even that would not help I'm afraid.

In what looks like a hopeless case for Guido Guerrieri, a Senegalese peddler is accused of the crime. Faced with small-town racism, Guido attempts to exploit the esoteric workings of the Italian courts. The voice of Sean Barrett brings this gritty Italian detective series to life.

This is hands down one of the finest books I have EVER listened to on Audible. I am on book three of the series and the only down side is that I have no idea what I will do after I've completed book four (the last in the series). Hopefully, this author will continue to write and Audible will PLEASE KEEP the narrator! One of the best I've heard in a long time.

Best-selling author John Sandford takes all the action and suspense of his acclaimed Prey novels and heads west to the dark gleam of L.A.- where the Night Crew works. A mobile unit of video freelancers, they prowl the midnight streets to sell to the highest network bidder. Murders. Robberies. High-speed chases. For them, it is an exhilerating life. But tonight, two deaths will change everything.

What would have made The Night Crew better?

As usual Richard Ferrone is perfect. I love all of John Sandford's "Prey" books and was excited to find another book by him that I had not listened to. I can't even get past a hour of listening. I quit. This book is bordering of just plain silly! Maybe it gets exciting and starts to make sense further on but I'm way to disappointed and bored to go any further. Going to ask for a refund on this one.

The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

Would you try another book from Jess Walter and/or Edoardo Ballerini?

I look at all these reviews and wonder how so many people can have such a different view then myself. The story line is sophomoric with idiotic dialog that just is not like normal conversation, the narrator sounds like a high school kid and after investing time in listening to half the book I can't take any more.

Would you ever listen to anything by Jess Walter again?

    Zero!

What didn’t you like about Edoardo Ballerini’s performance?

    No!

What character would you cut from Beautiful Ruins?

    Boring voice.

Idiotic story, unbelievably poor narrator...once again I got sucked in to purchasing a book based on other reviews and I'm having a hard time figuring out what book they were listening to. I guess I owe it to myself to continue listening but the narrator is driving me crazy.
This is a 3 "No Stars" book!
