Best selling author John Grisham (A Time to Kill, The Brethren) returns with a new tale for modern times, offering a hilarious look at the chaos and frenzy that have become a part of our holiday tradition.

    "The ending makes it MOOT"
    Overall

This could have been a good story. It starts as a seeming attempt to bring the over-consumptive habits of Americans at Christmas to light. Just when you think the hero will prevail, the plot turns on itself. For those of us who would like to see family appreciation replace eight foot glowing santas as a holiday them, this book is a loser. However, I will say that it has funny moments ala Year in Provence and that there are some light and charming family moments, so it is not a total wash. However, I'd easily recommend Paint House over this.

A rare hybrid of vampire and werewolf, Riley Jenson and her twin brother, Rhoan, work for Melbourne's Directorate of Other Races, an organization created to police the supernatural races, and protect humans from their depredations. While Rhoan is an exalted guardian, a.k.a. assassin, Riley is merely an office worker, until her brother goes missing on one of his missions. The timing couldn't be worse.

    "TOO MUCH SEX!!!"
    Overall

The premise of this book is cool, and the development of supernatural creatures as a part of society is intriguing and well-done. But there is so much sex, it gets distracting. It was as though this was an exercise in ho wmany sex scenes can be crammed into one book... sex for lust, sex for hate, sex for torture, sex for release... it really detracted from the storyline.
