This book was a joy to listen to. I always enjoy a book that paints a good picture and exercises my imagination. If you enjoy philosophy and in general like to explore different ways of thinking about your life and your surroundings you should enjoy this book. He should continue to read his own books. The narrator of his other books is terrible!

I have enjoyed many of Mr. Pollans books and was excited to find this addition to his self read collection. I really enjoyed " A place of my own" and hoped it would be more along the lines of that than some of his past dissections of the Lipid Theory. I enjoyed those also but this book really made me see cooking in a different light. I took some valuable knowledge away from this writing. I became friends with the sour dough culture in my kitchen, appreciate the baking process so much more and open up a whole new world when it comes to meat. The beer I have yet to try. For those who even have a slight interest in cooking.... Michael Pollan will or tries very well to change your perspective on the subject in the way most Pollan fans would expect. Loads of research and thought go in to all his works and he did not fail here.

While i am indebted to Mr. Kyle for his service to our country and have do not doubt his achievements, this was in my opinion a slow and badly pasted together story when compared to many other military genre books I've read and listened to. The narrator tried too hard in his imitation of a Texas good ole boy. Chris Kyle also seemed braggadocios to me and attempted to badly cover this with stale humble statements after the fact. I found myself drifting off quite often during this book and that is something that has never happened to me while listening to a soldiers autobiography. If your a screw-em all patriot crusader who doesnt mind a little covered bragging and badly imitated Texas accents, you might like this book. I would rather re listen to Whitefeather any day.

I purchased this book for a road trip my brother and law and I took. He loves anything to do with cooking so I figured it would at least mildly interest him and I. I was wrong. The author failed to spark any interest or thought with this book. Except for some facts here and there, he strayed on to subjects like spiders who secrete wax to feed males on their backs or how one tribal woman slept with every bachelor in the village. The narrator reminded me a lot of Scott Brick.... whom has spoiled many otherwise good books for me in the past with his snide reading style. If your expecting a warm, enlightening and entertaining book about the subject of using fire to cook... this is NOT it.

I am a war book junkie and have read many books on the iraq war but this one takes the prize. The authors conveiance of events and description of character is superb. I felt closer to the soldier and civilian while listening to this book than any other I have read or listened to..
