You can't lose with Jill Mansell. This was a fun read with many twists and turns with all kinds of relationships. Rags to riches - Kind of.
Do your self a favor and listen to this. If you like your books with strong characters and plots- this one is for you. I measure my enjoyment by whether I would re-listen - I definitely would.
I don't know what those wishy washy reviews are about. This book was totally absorbing. It's rather long so I found myself alternating between being very productive and sitting motionless waiting to see what was going to happen next. You've read the description and the plot does revolve around several characters' ways of dealing with grief. It's also about self discovery. The reading performance is wonderful. I especially like the children's voices. Erica James - a no brainier with book selection. I haven't read all but generally she delivers!
I read almost everything. I really enjoy MacBride's Logan McRae books. I love the gritty local color of the Scottish police department in Aberdeen. I thought this was another Logan book and I enjoyed the character Ash- Although I can't condone his ask-questions-later style and it's not really working for him in this his first book. With all the positives of this novel, I remain unhappy but I respect the writer's skill.
I guess everything is so subjective - How we absorb the material. I read the reviews and I wanted to like this book but there was not enough of a story here. 3 downloads - I thought I would lose my mind. Insipid, sappy, cliche-ridden dialogue - Get my drift here...I'm sorry but I feel that the other reviewers really misled me or my tolerance for this type of a story is really low. It wasn't quite a hot sexy romance because nothing happened until the very last few segments. Love was not unrequited just delayed. There was a lot of angst and I thought there would be some big reveal but I really wasn't impressed. Sorry folks but I must be honest. I read everything and I like romance too but intelligent, amusing, sexy plots - one of those anyway - would have been nice.
I was so sorry this book ended. The varied and flawed characters the interweaving stories. It was so worth it. The narration was superb and if you like a great story and like to reread in the future - Don't miss this.
I almost gave up on this book - It was moving kind of slowly and a little whiney. I began to like the central character a little more and stuck with it and it paid off. Getting used to the spoken email addresses took some doing - Just not that interesting to listen to. I did actually laught out loud while listening. The narrator was fine for me and I felt did a good job.
Jonathon Tropper is one of my new favorite authors. I plan to either read or listen to everything that he has written. This story was a wonderful slice of life book with complex familial relationships and coming of age issues. Funny, sexy and true. I really enjoyed it. Scott Brick has a rich voice - Reminded me of Kelsey Grammer without all the b.s.
I like Annie Sanders and I've listened to most of her books on Audible. I thought this story was pretty good but predictable. It was a nice easy listen with no big surprises. A seemingly honest depiction about family relationships and the complications of marriage. Nothing painful here but not too deep either. I am not sorry I listened.
I've read almost all of Nick Hornby - I'm a big fan. As usual he gives you quirky characters and an interesting story. I really enjoyed listening but it was too short. (Sharon)
If you liked Skippy Dies, you will like this book. This is a frenetically paced book with colorful, humorously flawed characters. I relate to a lot of Bernadette's failings, unfortunately without any of her genius. It's rich with architectural information and what feels like insider information on living in Seattle and working at Microsoft. It's about the difficulty of long term relationships, children and mistakes made. Ms. Wilhoite has a lovely singing voice and I did enjoy her reading, although I felt as if I was running a 100 meter dash along side her sometimes. (Sharon)
