Here's the delightful new novel from Clare Naylor, whose sleeper hit Dog Handling was one of Cosmopolitan's Best Beach Reads for 2002. Fresh and fun, The Goddess Rules is an outrageous, wry, and razor-sharp portrait of a girl who thinks her life is just fine, until she meets a woman who swears by the belief that life is meant to be fabulous.

I've just finished this book and thought it was terrific. Well paced with enough peaks and valleys for the characters. This author gave you enough to keep you entertained with an intelligent well thought out story. The reader was wonderful as always. (Just finished the Winter Sea) I've listened to countless Rosalyn Landor reads and I think she is very talented - She sounds younger here. Want to read more Clare Naylor. (Richard's wife)

When eight-year-old Timothy Decker finds his parents brutally murdered, it's clear the Deckers weren't the intended victims: Timothy's own room---ransacked, all traces of his existence expertly obliterated---is the shocking evidence. Timothy's nanny, Mona, is certain about only one thing. Timmy needs to disappear, fast. Only Jane Whitefield, a Native American "guide" who specializes in making victims vanish, can lead him to safety.

Jane Whitefield is a Native American guide who leads solitary outcasts through hostile territory to escape the vengeance of their enemies. But the shaded forest paths her Seneca ancestors might have followed on such missions have all been converted to superhighways, and now the safest way stations are crowded urban buildings that offer the camouflage of anonymity. Still, the supply of runaways - and the need for a woman who will take great risks to save them - have never been greater.

Jane Whitefield is a name to be whispered like a prayer - a shadow woman who rescues the helpless and the hunted when their enemies leave them no place to hide. Now, with the bone-deep cunning of her Native American forebears, she arranges a vanishing act for Pete Hatcher, a Las Vegas gambling executive. It should be a piece of cake, but she doesn't yet know about Earl and Linda - professional destroyers who will cash in if Hatcher dies, killers who love to kill...slowly.

Angel Sands is an old-fashioned seaside resort of bed and breakfasts, cottages to let, and teashops. And with the best views of the tiny beach is Paradise House, home to the Baxter girls. With their mother taking time out to find herself, it’s down to them to maintain the smooth running of the family-owned bed and breakfast. Not an easy task given that their father - now that his wife isn’t around - has suddenly become a moving target for the opposite sex.…

This is a very lovely story. Don't be put off my a few mediocre reviews because they're wrong. This story is set in Wales along the coast at a family run bed and breakfast. The plot involves 3 sisters, their parents and grandmother with a few more additional characters. It's very involved and mostly centers on one sister. Shirley King reads splendidly with assorted Welsh accents. The whole book is simply delightful.

I don't know what those wishy washy reviews are about. This book was totally absorbing. It's rather long so I found myself alternating between being very productive and sitting motionless waiting to see what was going to happen next. You've read the description and the plot does revolve around several characters' ways of dealing with grief. It's also about self discovery. The reading performance is wonderful. I especially like the children's voices. Erica James - a no brainier with book selection. I haven't read all but generally she delivers!

Five years ago his daughter, Rebecca, went missing on the eve of her 13th birthday. A year later the first card arrived: homemade, with a Polaroid picture stuck to the front – Rebecca, strapped to a chair, gagged and terrified. Every year another card: each one worse than the last. The tabloids call him The Birthday Boy. He’s been snatching girls for 12 years, always in the run-up to their 13th birthday, sending the families his homemade cards showing their daughters being slowly tortured to death.

I read almost everything. I really enjoy MacBride's Logan McRae books. I love the gritty local color of the Scottish police department in Aberdeen. I thought this was another Logan book and I enjoyed the character Ash- Although I can't condone his ask-questions-later style and it's not really working for him in this his first book. With all the positives of this novel, I remain unhappy but I respect the writer's skill.

Enigmatic and sexy, Professor Gabriel Emerson is a well-respected Dante specialist by day, but by night he devotes himself to an uninhibited life of pleasure. He uses his notorious good looks and sophisticated charm to gratify his every whim, but is secretly tortured by his dark past and consumed by the profound belief that he is beyond all hope of redemption. When the sweet and innocent Julia Mitchell enrolls as his graduate student, his attraction and mysterious connection to her not only jeopardizes his career, but sends him on a journey in which his past and his present collide.

I guess everything is so subjective - How we absorb the material. I read the reviews and I wanted to like this book but there was not enough of a story here. 3 downloads - I thought I would lose my mind. Insipid, sappy, cliche-ridden dialogue - Get my drift here...I'm sorry but I feel that the other reviewers really misled me or my tolerance for this type of a story is really low. It wasn't quite a hot sexy romance because nothing happened until the very last few segments. Love was not unrequited just delayed. There was a lot of angst and I thought there would be some big reveal but I really wasn't impressed. Sorry folks but I must be honest. I read everything and I like romance too but intelligent, amusing, sexy plots - one of those anyway - would have been nice.

Ruth Cole is a complex, often self-contradictory character — a "difficult" woman. Her story is told in three parts, each focusing on a crucial time in her life. When we first meet her, Ruth is only four. The second window into Ruth's life opens when she is an unmarried woman whose personal life is not nearly as successful as her literary career. The novel closes in the autumn of 1995, when Ruth is a 41-year-old widow and mother — and about to fall in love for the first time.

Maybe it was those extra five pounds I'd gained. Maybe it was because I was about to turn the same age my mother was when I lost her. Maybe it was because my husband and I seemed to be running out of things to say to each other. But when the anonymous online study called "Marriage in the 21st Century" showed up in my inbox, I had no idea how profoundly it would change my life. It wasn't long before I was assigned both a pseudonym and a caseworker. And, just like that, I found myself answering questions.

I almost gave up on this book - It was moving kind of slowly and a little whiney. I began to like the central character a little more and stuck with it and it paid off. Getting used to the spoken email addresses took some doing - Just not that interesting to listen to. I did actually laught out loud while listening. The narrator was fine for me and I felt did a good job.
