  • Why Jesus?: Rediscovering His Truth in an Age of Mass-Marketed Spirituality

The author believes that over the past forty years movements like New Age spirituality and society's obsession with human potential have combined like a "perfect storm" to redefine for popular culture what has been for centuries the classic biblical definition of the person, work, and teaching of Jesus Christ. Major new age and human potential tenets will be discussed like: the belief that we are all gods and have to discover our divinity; Jesus was only a good teacher; Christianity is but one among many ways to eternal life; reincarnation is real; Jesus was married; truth is relative; there is no sin; and perfection is possible.

    Story

This is a fantastic must read for anyone who seeks to defend Christ in this modern era. Zacharias ably defends Biblical Christianity in a way few in this era can do. He challenges the "Spirituality" that is being mass marketed and even admits where the Church has failed in recent years. This is not light listening and is one I will undoubtedly listen to several times and may ultimately seek a printed version as well.

This best seller tells of the young Dutch factory worker's incredible efforts to transport Bibles across closed borders - and the miraculous ways in which God provided for him every step of the way. Brother Andrew's story remains as inspiring today as it was 35 years ago, and with this new release, it will motivate a whole new generation to risk everything to follow God's call.

A friend recommended this book to me when I spoke of trying to learn to trust God more in my daily life. This book was very humbling as time and time again experiences in how God met needs was shared. I was challenged not only in how I approach my finances but in how I handle my prayer life and the time I spend with God daily. If you are a Christian you cannot go wrong in using a credit for this book.

Intellectual Sophia Bennett knew what kind of man she wanted: a rugged cowboy. And in Texas they were everywhere! So why couldn't she take her eyes off brilliant professor Max Travers? He was a Wizard in mathematics who surely made love by the numbers. Yet every inch of him - no Stetson, no dusty boots - added up to dangerously sexy.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I am somewhat ambivalent on this question. I enjoyed listening to one of the early efforts by a favorite author. However, like many early works, it is not up to the standards of this author's efforts in the last ten to fifteen years. It is not a story that really held my interest and is not one I want to listen to ten or more times as I have some of her others.

Would you be willing to try another book from Jayne Ann Krentz? Why or why not?

Oh definitely. As mentioned above, I could tell that this was a very early work by a favorite author and someone who is one of the best authors in the romance genre.

    Any additional comments?

Get this on sale if curious about Krentz development as an author. However, don't expect too much.

  • Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....

What did you love best about Unbroken?

4 stars is because much of what happened to this man is not enjoyable and up-lifting. It is not always easy to hear of the horrible things that this man survived in the war. However, this is one of those books that is important to keep listening to because these are just the sort of things humans are capable of in the right circumstances. More than that the story of all that was survived suggests how the human spirit will respond and strike back or survive in spite of the worst sort of abuse.

What about Edward Herrmann’s performance did you like?

He strikes just the right tone to narrate with documentary precision often leaving me on the edge of my seat.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Too many to name just one.

    Any additional comments?

This is one of those books that I think ought to be required reading for history of WWII. Here we scratch the surface of war crimes in the Pacific Theatre and reasons for the dropping the atomic bombs which are so little appreciated not even 75 years later.

What made the experience of listening to Worth Any Price the most enjoyable?

An excellent story. Set in a historical time period many have written about, the plot line itself is unlike anything I have read before. Kleypas has the skill necessary to pull off this uncommon story line and keep the romance alive throughout.

Lacey Terwilliger's shock and humiliation over her husband's philandering prompt her to add some bonus material to Mike's company newsletter: stunning Technicolor descriptions of the special brand of "administrative support" his receptionist gives him. The detailed mass e-mail to Mike's family, friends, and clients blows up in her face, and before one can say "instant urban legend", Lacey has become the pariah of her small Kentucky town and a media punch line....

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This was a fun book in spite of its of its focus on the heroine's divorce and recovery from it.

What was one of the most memorable moments of And One Last Thing...?

I really enjoyed the newsletter she sends to the friends, family and clients of her soon to be ex.

    Any additional comments?

Recovery form divorce and a cheating spouse is not as easy as this makes out and many won't like the whole premise. However, if you can suspend disbelief and enjoy the characters, who are really fairly well drawn, this is a book that can make for a very enjoyable listen.

This was a wonderful story. It was more than just a mindless romance, I felt as though I entered the heroine's life watching as things fell apart and came back together again in a way she never expected. The relationships that are sketched for us (from a mother recovering from a divorce to an acquaintance from high school who becomes a friend) all help to texturize this book with far more to satisfy the imagination than most in the genre. Well worth a credit in my mind.

Would you listen to Virgin River again? Why?

I felt like I was meeting a set of friends in this book. Entertaining with a nice romance at the center, while dealing with some issues I and friends face every day. It is a wonderful listen and Virgin River proves to be a great place to visit again and again. I'm a little over half way through this 17 book series. So far they have all proved credit worthy and worth a return listen.

The fairy tale courtship did not turn into a happily-ever-after. Not until her husband dropped dead, that is. He had been horrible enough to Christiana during their short marriage, and she was not going to allow the traditional period of mourning to ruin her sisters' debuts as well. So she decides to put him on ice and go on as if nothing's happened.... Until the real earl appears.

Yes, I will almost certainly be listening to this one again. It is so funny and entertaining. When I sought out this book it was just the perfect comedic touch I needed on a rough day.

Listened to this one for the fourth or fifth time this weekend and still enjoyed it. The story starts to flesh out some of how society is changing as the industrial revolution is underway contrasting entrepreneurs with traditional aristocracy. Annabelle and Simon are wonderfully memorable characters. The supporting cast sets up the Wallflowers Series very nicely. If you enjoy the idea of getting lost in a world filled with ballrooms, beautifully gowned women and an alpha male staking his claim this should be on your download list.
