What would have made I'm Here to Win better?

    Less Chris McCormack

What do you think your next listen will be?

    Something not sports related

    Any additional comments?

It just came across as Macca loving himself at the expense of all others. He repeats himself a lot. I listened to this while I ran and found myself getting really annoyed and wanted it to be over. I was not inspired. I couldn't identify with him at all.

  • Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen

Why we think it’s a great listen: Want to join the “superhumans”? Luckily you don’t have to run to catch up with them, thanks to McDougall’s and Sanders’ inspiring (and motivating) journey through history, science, physiology, health, entertaining characters and unlikely friendships. Full of incredible characters, amazing athletic achievements, cutting-edge science, and, most of all, pure inspiration, Born to Run is an epic adventure.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend and have recommended this book to other runners. Its totally inspiring and highly entertaining.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen?

I really liked the section on barefoot running (although I personally run in nike volmeros myself), and the section on the long footrace with the Tarahumara Indians in the second half.

    Any additional comments?

I listened to this book while running and it inspired me to increase my distance and run longer and harder. I have listened to it twice already and plan to listen to it again. Great book!

One of America’s most popular authors, Jodi Picoult has earned a reputation for crafting riveting, topical fiction. In House Rules she examines how being different can have dire consequences. Teenager Jacob Hunt has Asperger’s syndrome. A forensic science wizard, he follows his scanner to show up at crime scenes and give law enforcement officials his advice.

Would you listen to House Rules again? Why?

    Yes, definitely.

What about the narrators’s performance did you like?

I liked that it was read by multiple people. It helped me get into the story more, like a performance.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There were moments in this book where I laughed out loud, smiled and sat perplexed. I really enjoyed it. I am a teacher who works with students with autism and I found the main character in this book to be highly interesting. Jodi Picoult did her homework on Aspergers.

    Any additional comments?

This was my first Jodi Picoult book and I will be listening to more!

At the request (well, it wasn't really a request) of his employers, Augusten lands in rehab, where his dreams of group therapy with Robert Downey Jr. are immediately dashed by grim reality of fluorescent lighting and paper hospital slippers. When Augusten is forced to examine himself, he finds himself in the worst trouble of all. Because when his thirty days are up, he has to return to his same drunken Manhattan life - and live it sober. Dry is the story of love, loss, and Starbucks as a Higher Power

What does Augusten Burroughs bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love that the book is read by the author. It gives it a really personal touch.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There is so much that is good about this book but I don't want to spoil any of it for people who haven't listened or read it. If you haven't experienced it, please do. Its a great listen. Its a page turner. I didn't want it to end.
