  • Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance

In this lyrical, unsentimental, and compelling memoir, the son of a black African father and a white American mother searches for a workable meaning to his life as a black American. It begins in New York, where Barack Obama learns that his father, a figure he knows more as a myth than as a man, has been killed in a car accident.

Kathryn says: "A wonderful, insightful, non-political story"
    "Talent and interesting"
    Overall

Barack is rare, I think. It is not terribly unusual for a politician to speak or write well, but Barack also reads well. And given the interesting life he led, this is an engaging listen.

  • 11-22-63: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (30 hrs and 44 mins)

On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

Kelly says: "I Owe Stephen King An Apology"
"Recommended book - Craig Wasson too!"

If you could sum up 11-22-63 in three words, what would they be?

"The past harmonizes." And so apparently does Stephen King with my interests. I was in Castle Rock, Washington State, when a passage about a different Castle Rock was mentioned in the book. I had taken a picture of a Studebaker only a day before a Studebaker was likewise mentioned. The book harmonized with The Warmth of Other Suns which my wife and I had just finished. It seems to me like there were other things too. This probably will make for the weirdest review.

What did you like best about this story?

That hearts will find a way.

What does Craig Wasson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Craig did a wonderful job performing the story. I just wanted to add my interpretation of some of the roles he took on beyond the characters in the book. The first one I noticed was Burt Lancaster. Burt Lancaster has a unique voice and pacing in my experience. Later I thought I heard John Wayne in a bit part, then Jimmy Stewart, and finally John Houseman. Maybe I'm mistaken. Did anyone else hear them too? I'll search the internet and see if anyone commented on it. (Alas, I haven't found that anyone had a similar experience.) The only thing off was the Russian accent. It sounded more German than Russian. I did see where another reviewer mentioned this. The good news is that this was intentional according to Publishers Weekly: "Wasson is even able to provide a credible voice for George de Mohrenschildt, a friend (and possible co-conspirator) of Oswald who speaks English and Russian with a German accent." --
